In another series of “If you drink, don’t drive, and if you drive, don’t drink”, we once again read the news of how the actions of a reckless driver cost yet another innocent life.
Previously, we talked about Roz Pho and how she thought she was sober enough to drive home, then we talked about the 51-year-old man who kept swerving on the road, and then we talked about the 22-year-old man who crashed his lorry into a Serangoon North pre-school.
Today, we’re talking about this 24-year-old China lady who drove her Honda Accord even though she was allegedly drinking before that.
What Happened
The incident occurred on Friday morning, 25 October. According to the CCTV footage, all seems well as vehicles queue up behind each other at an intersection with the red light on. They are all law-abiding and waiting for the traffic light to turn green.
That’s when all of a sudden, a Honda Accord joins the queue but instead of stopping behind the vehicles, she rams head-on into all of them.

She rammed into Mohaidin Gani Mohamad, a 58-year-old worker for the Majlis Bandaraya Pulau Pinang (MBPP), a motorcyclist and a Proton Waja.
Drivers and motorcyclists who happened to be at the scene of the accident immediate got out and off of their vehicles to check on the injured. One man can also be seen making huge gestures, presumably to the 24-year-old driver as she was the one who caused the accident.
Aftermath
Medical help was called for immediately but unfortunately, Mr Mohaidin passed away at the scene of the accident.
According to Georgetown OCPD Asst Comm Che Zamani Che Awang, a post mortem is being done and a blood sample from the driver has been taken to test for alcohol and drug content. The driver has also been taken into custody for investigations.
It is sad that even with so many drink-driving accidents to learn from, people are still insistent that they are sober enough to drive back home. And when they choose to do so, they end up putting the lives of others in danger.
Even if you may have driven home drunk before and not caused any accidents, you may not be so lucky the following time.
Once again, we urge everyone that if you drink, don’t drive, and if you drive, don’t drink. There are many designated driver services out there for you to use. Paying them that fee is definitely going to be more worth it than costing someone else’s life.
