Remember how we joked about many people signing the petition against being given NDP funpacks, then going on ahead to collect the pack anyway, leaving nothing for those who really want it?
It could become a reality.
Reader Bao: Wait, you mean those 65,000 people actually did that?!
What-no, I mean, the part about not getting a funpack even though you want it could be a reality.
Reader Bao: Ohhh, wait. WHAT?!
If your reaction is like Baobao over there, don’t worry, I understand.
After all, many of us can only collect on Saturday since the collection timing is only from 10am to 6pm.
Yet on Monday itself, about 22% of the NDP funpacks have been collected.
296K NDP Funpacks Collected on the First Day; About 1 Million Left for Collection
According to a People’s Association spokesperson, about 296,000 funpacks were collected on 20 July 2020, the first day of collection.
In total, the NDP organisers have produced 1.2 to 1.3 million funpacks to be given out.
After doing some quick math, this means about 22% of the funpacks have been given out, leaving 78% for the remaining 13 days.
Initially, the NDP committee had wanted to produce enough funpacks for every household but petitions put a stop to that thinking.
In the end, they said that only 80% of Singaporeans and PR households will be able to get the funpacks.
Collection Details
Thinking of getting a funpack of your own?
Collection of the funpacks starts on 20 Jul 2020 and will run all the way to 2 Aug 2020 (for community centres) or 26 Jul 2020 (for residents’ corners).
You can check where to collect the funpacks by inputting your postal code in this website.
Collection hours are from 10am to 6pm daily, excluding public holidays.
Each household is entitled to one funpack and you have to show your NRIC to redeem.
It is advised that only one member of each household goes to collect the funpack at the collection points.
Safe distancing and temperature-taking measures will be in place to keep you safe during the collection.
Now, before you decide if it’s worth it to take a half-day to get a funpack of your own, you’ll want to know what’s inside first.
What’s Inside The Funpack?
According to ndp.gov.sg, the funpack will contain several items:
- Handheld flag
- Face tattoo
- Red Filter for phone torch
- A snack and a canned drink
- A state flag
- An iron-on flag
- “Our Heart For Singapore” Card
- A Singapore Together commemorative magnet
- Face Mask
- A thermometer
- and a bottle of hand sanitizer
I’ll be honest, the last 3 items will make everybody want a funpack for themselves.
An Alleged Sneak Preview Of The Funpack:
Facebook user, Eugene NT Tan, took to the social media platform to share a photo of the funpack’s contents, laid out in Tekong-style:
The photo is yet to be verified but it seems awfully similar to what the NDP organisers are showing on their website.
If the image is accurate, this means that every household is going to get an additional 4 face masks, 2 mini bottles of hand sanitisers and a thermometer.
However, for those who came across photos of these reusable masks:
It was confirmed that they are not part of the NDP 2020 funpack.
But then again, there are those who are only after the funpacks for one thing: the access to the NDP discount e-booklet.
Every year, the funpack will have a booklet of discounts which you can enjoy and this year, it’s going to be in electronic form.
If you’re someone who’s just gunning for the discounts, I have good news for you:
You Can Still Access NDP Funpack Promotions E-Booklet Online Even if You Didn’t Collect the FunPack
Just recently, website life.gov.sg dedicated an entire page to NDP e-discounts…
Which means that you can now peruse the extensive list of promotions, without needing to collect the funpack!
And having gone to the liberty of doing a headcount (because I’m bored), I counted 198 deals in total.
198. That’s enough deals to cover more than half a year.
Singapore turns 55 so generous ah?
Also, the promotions aren’t too shabby either. For instance, here are some of the more noteworthy promotions to grace the e-booklet:
Attraction rides at a discounted price? Hell yeah!
One can never go wrong with food… and RedMart serves as the cherry on top.
Similarly, you can never go wrong with shopping vouchers.
Face masks might have become part and parcel of our daily routines, but beauty treatment’s still a boon for the times you’ve to go without your mask.
Did I mention the food already?

And So… What’re You Waiting For?
Sure, you might be unable to collect your funpack for some inconceivable reason…
But at the very least, you can take solace in the fact that you can still access the promotional booklet, which is certainly a highlight of the funpack.
Though the masks and thermometer will, of course, be sorely missed.
With that said, we wish Singapore a happy 55th birthday in advance…
Time to collect CPF liao lo!
