Just in case you didn’t get the memo, Phase 2 might be kicking in on 19 Jun 2020 but the default work mode is still working from home (WFH).
Now, what if your boss isn’t happy that they can’t get people to work in the office and forced you to go back?
Well, they could be shut down, just like these 7 workplaces were.
7 More Workplaces Ordered to Cease Operations; 6 Had Refused to Let Employees WFH
On 16 Jun, the Singapore Ministry of Manpower (MOM) took to their Facebook to give an update about Phase 1.
Over the past two weeks, they have inspected almost 1,000 workplaces in Singapore.
As of 5pm on 15 Jun 2020, MOM has issued 52 composition fines of $1,000 each to employers who did not ensure Safety Management Measures (SMM) at their workplaces.
Not only that, but they had also shut down 7 workplaces.
6 of them had too many employees back in the office even though they can actually work from home.
The remaining workplace had “multiple lapses” in SMM at the workplace.
Thankfully, all seven workplaces were allowed to resume operations after working closely with MOM to rectify their SMMs during and after the inspections.

Default Mode = WFH
According to Gov.sg, while Singapore might have entered Phase 2, the default mode of working here is still WFH (telecommuting).
Again, employees who are able to WFH will have to stay home.
In the same FB post, MOM said that they have observed companies adopting good practices including:
- SafeEntry visitor management system for both employees and visitors
- Employees must wear masks
- Staggered work hours and lunch breaks
- Split teams
- Good cleaning regimes
They thanked the responsible employers and said more of these will be needed to help keep community transmissions low.
