We’re almost halfway through the month and have been through almost 75% of the Circuit Breaker period.
And things have been looking well so far.
Today, 752 cases are reported.
This means we now have a total of 26,098 cases in Singapore.
Out of today’s cases, 2 are Singaporeans or Singapore PRs.
A majority of the cases are work permit holders residing in dormitories.
On average, based on yesterday’s numbers, the number of new cases in the community has decreased, from an average of 8 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 6 per day in the past week. The number of unlinked cases in the community has also decreased, from an average of 3 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 2 per day in the past week.
Now, everyone looks goody but here’s one interesting thing: WHO has just become Captain Obvious and said that the virus might never go away.
WHO: Virus Won’t Go Away
Today, in a not-so-surprising announcement, WHO told countries around the world that Covid-19 might “never be wiped out”.
They’re concerned with how some countries are easing themselves out of lockdown measures, and said it’s “not a guarantee” that doing so will not lead to a second wave of the highly infectious virus reappearing again.
And of course, they said that “it is important to put this on the table: this virus may become just another endemic virus in our communities, and this virus may never go away.”
But what does that mean?
A more recent case of a deadly virus becoming a part of our lives is the H1N1, a respiratory-type virus as well.
You can read here to find out how H1N1 ‘died‘ in Singapore and it’s not through containment.
So even if you’re reading this in 2026, you probably just have COVID-19 and are resting at home now, reading this silly article back in 2020 when we were all forced to stay at home, cheering at the low number of community cases when COVID-19 is just like a flu to you.
