A declaration of love can come in many forms. Sometimes it is a simple note or a peck on the cheek.
At other times, it is a lavish celebration involving many family members and friends.
For one couple who has been together for over 50 years, they chose the latter.
The bonus? The 50-year-anniversary celebration also coincided with the wife’s 70th birthday.
Talk about double happiness.
Here is more about the extravagant celebration, which cost $50,000.
Couple Celebrated Their 50-Year-Anniversary and Wife’s 70th Birthday at a Hotel
The stars of this story are Mr Huang Guo Rong (Hanyu pinyin) and Ms Zhang Yu Shan (Hanyu pinyin).
The former is 76 years old, and the latter is 70 years old this year.
They have been married for at least 50 years and celebrated that milestone with a lavish banquet at One Farrer Hotel & Spa earlier this month.
The banquet took place on 6 August 2023, with over 300 friends and family in attendance.
The celebration was a two-pronged one. One was to celebrate the 50th anniversary of a blissful marriage (with many more to come), and the other was to celebrate Ms Zhang’s 70th birthday.
According to Ms Zhang, who was interviewed by Zaobao, her birthday fell on 7 August, and her wedding anniversary was on 18 August.
As both important dates fell in the same month, the couple decided the roll the two up and celebrated for maximum happiness.
They started planning for this event over a year ago and made many efforts to find the right venue to host their banquet.
They also carefully planned out the entertainment for the night, including performances like singing, dancing, and bian lian (or traditional Chinese mask-changing arts).
The couple even went as far as to invite the talented Yang Qian Hong to perform for them at their banquet.
In total, the couple splashed out about $50,000 for the celebration. How sweet of them.
Ms Zhang also shared how the couple knew many talented performers and invited them to perform on stage.
These friends graciously accepted the couple’s request to perform at their banquet.
Eight of Ms Zhang’s friends even did a qipao showcase to bring joy to the older attendees at the banquet.
For those unaware, the qipao is a traditional Han Chinese costume, typically a tight-fitting dress.
She also shared that the motivation behind this showcase was to show that people could age gracefully and have fun whether or not they had prior experience in the spotlight.
Ms Zhang was also grateful that her invitees took the time and effort to rehearse their performances for her big night.
