Everything About the Bukit Timah Accident That Involves a School Bus

Every morning, thousands of parents send their children off in school buses in the wee hours of the morning.

And every morning, their children make it to school safely.

However, an accident involving a car, carrying three passengers, and a school bus occurred this morning at about 6am.

This morning, a video of an accident in Bukit Timah was uploaded on Reddit.

 

In the video, a wrecked school bus and a burning car are seen.

Another video of the scene was also shared in a Telegram group.

The accident took place this morning (6 March 2024). The police said it was alerted of the accident, which occurred along Bukit Timah Road towards Upper Bukit Timah road, just outside the Royalgreen condominium, at about 6am.

The ACS (Junior) students on the school bus were on their way to school.

The car, which had three passengers, caught fire on impact. The three passengers – a 32-year-old female, a 22-year-old male, and a 27-year-old male – were arrested for traffic-related offences.

The 26-year-old male driver was also arrested for failing to provide a breath specimen under the Road Traffic Act 1961.

The three passengers and the driver, as well as two children on the school bus, aged eight and nine, were taken to National University Hospital (NUH).

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that the six people were conscious when taken to the NUH. One other person was assessed but declined to be taken to hospital.

School supplies like files, pieces of paper, and lunch boxes were seen strewn haphazardly across the road.

A lamp post had also fallen on two lanes at Bukit Timah Road. The accident took up three of the four lanes of the road, causing a massive traffic jam.

At around 9am, SBS Transit announced in a Facebook post that bus services 74, 151, 154, 156, 157, 170, 174 and 852 were delayed along Bukit Timah Road towards Clementi Road because of an accident. The buses resumed service at 1:34pm.

At 4:18pm, a letter was also posted a Telegram group. In it, the ACS (Junior) principal updated parents about the incident, saying that the students and the bus driver are currently well and resting at home.

The incident is currently being investigated. More details of the accident are expected to be released soon.

Barely two months into 2024, there have already been at least two fatal accidents involving children.

On 23 January, a four-year-old girl died after being knocked down by a car while she was walking home from pre-school with her two-year-old sister and their helper. A 40-year-old woman was arrested for careless driving causing death.

A week later, a 12-year-old girl was killed after being hit by a van in Taman Jurong, just two minutes away from two schools – Jurong Secondary School and Yuvabharathi International School. The 23-year-old van driver was arrested for careless driving causing death.
