There are so many recent cases of filming, sexual assult, and molestation that I’m starting to lose faith in humanity.
Do people not know how to keep their hands to themselves?
Anyway, here is another case of sexual misconduct in school. This time round, its in Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP).
NYP Former Student Flimed Male Schoolmate In Campus Toilet; Gets 15 Months’ Probation
An 18-year-old NYP former student leader was sentenced on Thursday (2 January) to 15 months’ probation for recording a video of a male schoolmate in a campus toilet.
Brandon Mandolang Yong Fu was also ordered to perform 100 hours of community service, and he is also restricted to remain indoors from 10pm to 6am every day.
On top of that, his father had to sign a $5k bond to ensure his good behaviour.
Given that he is a former scholarship recipient, District Judge Seah Chi-Ling said, “I note that you are an exemplary student in school, with a close relationship with your family.”
The judge further stated that he had displayed victim empathy and insight into the wrongdoing of his behaviour. Mandolang had pleaded guilty in November last year to engaging in insulting behaviour with the intent to cause harm.
The Incident
The incident took place at a toilet cubicle in NYP at around 11am on 2 May last year. Madolang viewed pornographic material on his mobile phone after entering the cubicle.
Subsequently, the victim entered an adjacent cubicle. This was where Mandolang took action and decided to record a video of the victim using his front-facing camera.
He held his mobile phone over the cubicle partition and recorded for one to two minutes. However, the victim spotted it and Mandolang retracted his phone.
The victim then waited outside of the toilet to confront the voyeur. However, he left after 15 minutes as he was late for class. Eventually, he made a police report at around 9.15pm on the same day.
The closed-circuit television footage showed him entering the toilet and leaving after the victim, which exposed him.
According to an NYP spokesman, this resulted in the rescinding of his scholarship, and a suspension. He was also removed from the executive committee position of his CCA (co-curricular activity).
For recording the video, Mandolang could have been jailed for up to six months and fined up to $5,000.
Which is why kids, if you have an urge, either keep it to yourself or do nothing. Your pleasure should not be another person’s pain or torture.
