S’pore Man Caught On Security Camera Stealing From M’sia Store, Claims To ‘Play Play’ Only
A Singaporean man was caught red-handed on camera pocketing a pair of spectacle frames in Malaysia.
After the store uploaded CCTV footage of the man’s thievery, he begged the store to take it down, saying he would pay for everything he took.
The store, Young Look Vision, is located in Mahkota Parade shopping center, a popular shopping mall in Malacca.
The store said that the man used a Singaporean credit card to pay for a lesser item worth about S$40 at the Malacca store before stealing the much more expensive frame.
The store shared the incident on Facebook, writing “[Brother] Ben Lee, you buy a RM120 frame but accidentally take my Japan frame (handmade), please return it to me or I will report police, thank you. Oh ya, just now you used a credit card to make payment so we can find out your details. Enjoy your holiday in [Malacca]”.
The thief even signed a receipt for the item he paid for with a fake name – Ben Lee.
But in an update yesterday written in Chinese, the shop said that the man called and begged the owner to take down the CCTV footage from its page, adding that he would pay for the stolen item, which reportedly costs RM1,400 (S$460).
And it seems like the store owner has accepted the thief’s offer.
“Play play only”
Young Look Vision’s owner, Nick Ng, 37, told Coconuts Singapore that the Singaporean man did indeed pay for the stolen item.
The payment is being processed and would take a few days to complete, Ng said.
“He kept calling me hoping that I would delete the video because all his friends and family kept calling him to ask why he did this. And his reply to me was ‘I just play play only don’t know can become so serious case,” Ng added.

The short clip of the incident starts with a man and woman in the store looking at different frames.
At one point, the man clearly looks up to the corners of the ceiling, probably to look for CCTV cameras.
After the woman leaves, the man walks toward a particular frame and picks it up to inspect it.
He then turns around and casually places it in his pocket.
After the sneaky theft, he walks to the cashier to purchase another item.

Ng later found out about the missing item while he was checking his stock a few hours after the Singaporean left.
It seems like Ng is letting this lucky Singaporean off the hook.
