There’s a certain phrase that tickles my funny bone.
“Do the mozzie wipeout”.
Firstly, who created this name? It sticks at the back of my brain whenever I see one of those suckers fly by.
No pun intended. Like why can’t we just say “Wipe Out The Mosquitos” or if you want to Singapore-fy it, “Walao Eh Wipe Out The Mozzies La”, or some variation of that?
Now if for some reason you have no idea what “Do the Mozzie Wipeout” is, it’s an inaugural dengue prevention campaign that was launched way back in April 2013 championing the trusty 5-step Mozie Wipeout.
But obviously, it isn’t quite as successful as they would’ve hoped because…
Over 15,000 Dengue Cases Reported In 2019, Almost 5 Times More Than 2018
Prepare to be very alarmed, and get ready to rush home like some random kiasu aunty after reading this article to do the Mozzie Wipeout.
NEA reported that as of 14 December 2019, the total number of reported dengue cases is 15,482.
This is almost FIVE times more than back in 2018 wherein there were only 3,285 cases reported.
That’s a sharp increase in dengue cases and if you think about it, it could’ve been any of us.
As of 16 December 2019, there are a whopping 60 active dengue clusters.
One of the biggest clusters is the Jurong West Street 61 cluster which was afflicted by 75 cases. Luckily, it has been closed and is currently under surveillance.
But Jurong West residents, don’t count your lucky stars just yet because NEA has reported that there are a few smaller clusters in the area. Hence, residents should still remain vigilant about the threat of dengue mozzies sucking your blood.
Other large clusters are located at Choa Chu Kang Ave 2, Elias Rd, Jln Bangau, Begonia Dr and Bt Mugliston.
NEA warns that both residents and stakeholders in the area should remain vigilant (just keep doing the Mozzie Wipeout basically) to prevent the number of cases from increasing.
But the question is how? Time to consult google. *Types into google*
