Genting’s Outdoor Theme Park In M’sia Will Be Fully Completed & Opens In Q3 2020

I used to frequent Genting Highlands when I was a child. I remember the cold weather and the cool air on my skin.

I remember the novelty of being able to wear a jacket outdoors which I wasn’t able to do in  Singapore, special thanks to the hot and humid weather here.

Lastly, the treacherous, winding steep-ass slope cars had to drive up to get to Genting.

Unfortunately, Genting Highlands slowly lost its popularity in favour of newer theme parks like Universal Studios Singapore, Legoland Malaysia, and the list goes on.

But there may still be hope for it in the very near future. Specifically, the third quarter of next year:

Are you as excited as I am!? Finally, after a lot of delays.

Long story short: Genting was supposed to collaborate with Fox, but they didn’t want to be associated with gambling.

Hence, the deal didn’t go through and the theme park, which was initially set to open in 2016 finally (partially) opened in 2019 this year.

There was so much drama that Genting even wanted to sue Fox. After all, they had already invested USD$750 million (~S$1 billion) in the theme park.

But despite all that, Genting finally opened.

They say good things must wait right.

Outdoor Theme Park Opening In Q3 2020

Now you must be wondering. Wah, the park is so big, the tickets will surely be expensive.

Well.. you’re not exactly wrong.

Ticket Prices

The Edge Malaysia reported that analysts from RHB Investment Bank BHD that exact price for the park tickets have yet to be confirmed.

However, Genting Malaysia’s management has said that various tickets will be available at different prices, such as annual, day, priority and VIP tour passes.

There’s also a big possibility that Genting Malaysia will adopt a dynamic pricing strategy, which means that there might be different prices for different timings. Yeah, kind of like Grab surges.

The exact price of the tickets is unknown, but analysts expect it to be similar to the regional theme parks like Universal Studios Singapore.

25 Rides, 11 Food Kiosks & 7 Restaurants To Look Forward To

Analysts have also said that the “management is confident that the outdoor theme park will open by 3Q20 and stated that it is currently restarting the process that was stopped last year. However, judging from the stage of completion and aggressive staff hiring in the past few months, we do not discount the possibility of an earlier opening.”

The theme park will be as big as 26 acres and will have 25 rides! Let’s hope there are tons of roller coasters.

When the park opens, 20 of the rides will be operating. The outdoor theme park will also have a new name, although 20 of the rides will be related to 20th Century Fox.

11 food kiosks will be made available alongside seven restaurants from ‘reputable franchises’.

The theme park is expected to be able to hold 10,000 visitors a day and 1,100 employees are needed to ensure that park operations run smoothly.
