…then I congratulate you for being high-SES, and also do remember to read this article carefully.

Pure Tassie Organic Apple and Blackcurrant Juice Recalled

The Singapore Food Agency has just issued a recall for the Pure Tassie Organic Apple and Blackcurrant Juice, and it’s not because it’s too high-SES; it’s because it’s too high-toxin.

They found that there an unsafe level of a toxin called patulin in it; the Centre for Food Safety of Hong Kong’s Food and Environmental Hygiene Department found that it exceeded the maximum limit of patulin in fruit juice.

Patulin is a mycotoxin, a naturally occurring toxin produced by certain moulds.

The word “mycotoxin” already sounds nasty, but it’s even more nasty to your body: ingesting too much of it may cause nausea, gastrointestinal disturbances and vomiting.

But if it’s a fruit juice, how can there be toxin in it?

As mentioned, Patulin is a toxin produced by moulds, and get it: they’re usually found in damaged or mouldy fruits.
