151 New Covid-19 Cases Reported Today (16 Jun); 2 Cases In The Community

Yesterday was a happy day.

Why? Because Phase 2 is coming very soon but more on that later.

First thing first, what do the numbers look like today?

Well, it looks pretty good.

Singapore reports 151 new Covid-19 cases today (16 Jun), including 2 cases in the community.

Just like yesterday, there are no Singaporeans/PRs Covid-19 cases.

The 2 cases in the community are work pass holders.

Equally happy news: the 12 staff members of St Anthony’s Canossian Secondary School have all tested negative for Covid-19.

15 Jun’s community cases were all picked up in the Ministry of Health’s (MOH) active screening of workers in essential services and they were all asymptomatic cases.

Two of them are linked to each other while the remaining case is unlinked.

Phase 2 Starts On 19 Jun 2020

On 15 Jun 2020, it was reported that Phase 2 is kicking in on Friday, 19 Jun 2020.

Dating couples who’ve been “Zoom-ing” each other for the last 2.5 months, rejoice.

Because after months of touching your sofa instead of your bae, you can finally touch your bae.

But wait—it’s mentioned that while social gathering of a maximum of 5 is allowed, you’d still have to keep a 1-metre distance away from each other.

So does that mean you can’t hold hands? Like that how to show Instagram that you’re still together?

Well, it’s not explicitly mentioned but here’s what MOH said: “Where not feasible or practical to apply one-metre safe distancing between individuals, this one-metre requirement can instead be enforced between groups, with each group made up of not more than five persons, and with no mixing between groups.”

You can also dine-in without getting arrested and public facilities are opening again.

However, what doesn’t change is the closure of these places:

  1. Religious services and congregations;
  2. Large cultural venues such as libraries and museums;
  3. Large-scale events and venues, such as conferences, exhibitions, concerts and trade fairs
  4. Entertainment venues such as bars, nightclubs, karaoke outlets, cinemas, theatres, as well as indoor and outdoor attractions.

And work arrangements, where the default mode of working is still WFH.
