Remember back in the days when you’d get only a measly 2GB a month and yet have to pay well over $40 for that?
That’s part of history now when Circle.Life came in to disrupt the market, causing even the mainstream telecoms to provide no-contract plans at extremely affordable prices catered for the heavy internet users.
And just for comparison, these are the “data-heavy” plans that’ll interest you Internet users:
- Singtel’s GOMO that has 20GB for $20 ($1 per GB)
- M1’s Sim-Only plan that has 30GB for $25 ($0.83 per GB)
- Starhub’s giga! that has 50GB for $45 ($0.9 per GB)
For Circle.Life, which doesn’t have its own infrastructure but still works like a telecom, it has a 100GB plan for $38 ($0.38 per GB).
Today, TPG Telecom announces its new plan, and hear this: it’s 50GB for $10, which means it’s $0.20 per GB.
Streaming with Wifi? Not when you’re with TPG, I guess.
TPG Telecom Launches with a $10 Plan That has 50GB; Cheapest in the Market Now
Lest you’ve not been following the news, TPG Telecom is the fourth telecom in Singapore.
But how about Circle.Life, you ask.
As mentioned, Circle.Life doesn’t have its own infrastructure, so it’s considered a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), whereby it’ll lease the infrastructure from a telecom. For Circle.Life, they lease from M1, which means when M1 goes down, Circle.Life would be affected, too.
But for TPG Telecom, they’re the fourth telecom in Singapore, in which they’ve their own infrastructure which they’re been building in the last few years.
The Australian telecommunications company has won the bid back in 2016, and since then, they’ve been working on developing their own network in Singapore while providing free trial plans for selected customers so that they can test the network.
But because it’s so new, a test by international mobile analytics firm Opensignal shows that the speed of the new telecom is still lagging behind the mainstream telecoms we have now, though that test was conducted last year.
This latest (and first) plan by TPG comprise the following:
- 50 GB
- 300 min local talktime
- 30 SMS
If you’re one who stream 4K video every day, you’d be glad to know that the excess local data is $1 per GB.
There’s also no activation fee.
Also, there would be 1GB data roaming in selected countries, but that’ll take effect from 1 May 2020.
The new telecom will be introducing a prepaid plan at a later date.
