More Thundery Showers In 2nd Half Of August
The weather in the first half of August has been rather cold.
Well, the second half proves to be quite promising in that aspect as well.
Southwest Monsoon season spells out more rain brought about by low-level winds blowing in from the southwest or southeast, and from the east on some days.
It’s about to get wetter than your eyes when you watch a sad movie, for thundery showers are expected to fall over parts of Singapore in the afternoon of most days this upcoming fortnight.
They may even continue on until the evening on some of these days.
Winds will converge large-scale over Singapore and the region on some days too, bringing about moderate to heavy thundery showers widespread over the island.
Mornings will also be affected on a few days with Sumatra squalls present, leading to widespread thundery showers and gusty winds.
Sumatra squalls actually caused heavy showers and gusty winds over most of Singapore in the last two weeks, especially on the first day of August.
The previous fortnight was also filled with thundery showers falling mostly in the afternoons and on some mornings too.
As a result, rainfall levels for the month of August are expected to be above average.
Still, Nights Will Be Warm
Sadly, dreams of sleeping cozily in your bed after a long day with the rain pit-pattering outside your window may just not come true after all.
Daily temperatures for the upcoming weeks are expected to range between 24°C and 33°C on most days – and it could hit a high of 34°C too.
With the arrival of southeast winds, warm and humid air will get blown in from surrounding seas especially in the southern and eastern coastal areas at night.
This means we’ll still get rather warm and humid nights with temperatures reaching a minimum of 28°C despite the many showers expected.
It follows the pattern shown in the first half of August as well, where night-time temperatures were 28°C and it was indeed very warm and humid.
Back then, for the day time, the highest temperature of 34.9°C was recorded at Marina Barrage while the lowest was 21.9°C at Pulau Ubin. Westies would have experienced the most rain during those weeks as well, with rainfall levels being above average especially in the western areas.
