As the world moves towards living with COVID-19, the Omicron variant has to join the party. A lot isn’t known about this variant yet except that it has way too many mutations, but many experts have agreed that it can spread much easier.

Omicron COVID-19 Patients in Different Rooms Allegedly Spread the Virus to Each Other in a Quarantine Hotel
According to a study in a journal, Emerging Infectious Diseases, by researchers at the University of Hong Kong, two infected individuals with the Omicron variant in Hong Kong might have infected each other from across the hallway on a quarantine hotel.
After watching the closed-circuit television camera footage, it revealed that neither person had any contact nor left the room.
This led to another speculation of airborne transmission when their doors were opened for food collection or during COVID-19 testing.
Of course, unless we can talk to the variant, the true nature of how it spread would stay unknown, but it’s safe to say that it’s indeed very infectious.
450 researchers have started to study Omicron’s mutations and how they may affect vaccine effectiveness. They are also learning how it transmits easily from person to person.
The answers to these burning questions may come out in a few days.
Omicron Cases Increasing
While the researchers are learning more about the Omicron variant, COVID-19 cases infected with the Omicron variant has been increasing globally.
It’s especially concerning that omicron is increasing not only in Gauteng province but also in other parts of South Africa, which could be an indication that the rapid rise is likely not due to other factors such as behaviour. (6/n) pic.twitter.com/PScR3iyvTt

Over the past month, COVID-19 cases have risen in various parts of South Africa. In addition to that, dozens of countries have detected Omicron infections.
Here on our sunny island, cases have “mostly displayed mild symptoms, and no Omicron-related deaths have been reported so far”. So far, we have three imported cases who have tested positive for the variant.
