ActiveSG To Start Limiting Access From 16 Mar & Give Out Queue Numbers Like Restaurants

Many countries around the world are stepping up efforts to contain Covid-19.

And Singapore isn’t any different.

While we have handled the Covid-19 outbreak somewhat decently, Singapore isn’t letting down its guard.

Other than implementing even tighter border restrictions at our various checkpoints, they’ve introduced various social distancing measures that Singaporeans should follow.

ActiveSG Limiting Access

ActiveSG is like the FairPrice of sports facilities.

For a reasonable amount of money, you can enjoy recreational sports activities like swimming, table tennis, badminton, a great workout session at the gym and more.

On the other hand, because it’s affordable, their facilities can get pretty crowded at times, especially at the various ActiveSG gyms.

On 15 Mar 2020, ActiveSG announced that they will be regulating access to public facilities.

It Starts From 16 Mar 2020

From Monday, 16 Mar, regulated access will be put into place at all ActiveSG centres.

These include:

  • Stadiums
  • Sports halls
  • Gyms
  • Swimming complexes
  • Studios

Some of the centres will only have one entrance with temperature screening measures in place.

Number of Visitors Depends On The Size of The ActiveSG Gym

Gymgoers, this is for you.

Just like not everyone is created equal in life (like my poor ugly boss), not every ActiveSG gym is created equal in size.

Some like the gym at Clementi Sports Complex is small while others, like the gym at Jurong West Sports Complex, is bigger.

According to ActiveSG, the number of visitors allowed into the gym at any point in time depends on the size of the gym.

And just like a parking lot, signs to indicate that the gym is full will be placed prominently once it’s full.

Determined gymgoers who still want to use the gym will have to take a queue number and wait, just like when you wait outside Din Tai Fung during the weekends.

But on the flip side, it also means you don’t have to wait as long for the bench press machine liao, right?

Badminton, Table Tennis, Squash & Tennis Usage

Also, half of the courts for badminton and table tennis will be closed.

The alternate arrangements help maintain some physical contact between people and regulate the number of visitors into the hall at any point in time.

ActiveSG assures that refunds for cancelled bookings due to this new measure will be made.

There will be no changes, however, to squash and tennis courts.

Swimming Pools

As for the various ActiveSG swimming pools, the number of visitors will be regulated as well.

Children pools are also closed temporarily and temperature taking, along with registration, will be required for entry into the facility.

P/S: Science has shown that the Covid-19 viruses are not transmissible within swimming poolsThe risk of drinking urine and poop is still there, though.

Programmes To Continue But With A Catch

If you love working out in the air-conditioned environment, you might be in for a change during this period.

Whenever possible, programmes which do not have to be held within studios will be held in a non-air-conditioned environment to encourage natural air ventilation.

For programmes that have to be held at the gym, the number of participants will be limited.

In Short, It’s For Your Own Good

Now, some might be angry that even their little pleasures in life like exercising will be gone. But as the saying goes, when in Rome, we do Rome things.

With the Covid-19 outbreak getting more serious by the day, we should all try and adjust to the changes that life has dealt us.

If you’re not confident of reaching the gym on time, just go onto YouTube and learn some callisthenics workout routines and do it at the stadium instead.

Of course, it goes without saying that if you’re not feeling well, even if it’s just a runny nose, go see a doctor instead of going to the gym.
