Carousell Responds to Incident of Man Confronting Rude Seller IRL in an IG Story

These days, getting insulted by someone on Carousell has become rather commonplace.

You make an offer for their product, they say some rather unkind things about your non-existent sister, and you move on to another seller.

But one user got so riled up recently that he went to great lengths just to confront the offender in person.

User Posed as Another Buyer to Confront Man Who Insulted His Mother

The man, who recounted the incident on social media, said he approached a seller on Carousell selling a pair of Yeezy sneakers for S$270.

Instead of paying cash, he offered the buyer a trade with his own sneakers.

The seller replied with this:

I get the vague feeling that the seller was not interested.

As you can see, the seller launched a cannonball of insults at the prospective buyer just for offering to trade his sneakers.

Most of the insults, as they inevitably are, were aimed at the man’s mother.

Angered, the man posed as another buyer – using a different account – just so he could meet the seller in person and confront him.

When they met up, the buyer immediately confronted the seller over his insults, while filming their interaction.

Upon realising that the cloak of anonymity is only available on the internet, the seller quickly covered his face using the bag, and apologised profusely to the man while pleading with him to stop filming.

Later, the seller allegedly offered all the money in his wallet to settle the situation, though it only contained S$5.

He added that he’s a peace-loving person who’s “not always like this”.

Hmm…

In the end, the man warned those who hide behind internet anonymity not to be rude to others.

“Moral of the story: don’t bark if you’re not ready to show some teeth,” he said.

Carousell’s Response

In response to the incident, Carousell urged users who encounter similar incidents to report the listing or the user, and leave it to Carousell to take immediate action.

Carousell also uploaded an infographic online, encouraging vexed users not to “go outside settle” but to report the matter to the platform instead.

The seller in the incident has also been suspended, Carousell said.

“Carousell does not condone offensive behaviour of any kind, including the use of profanities,” it added.

So, the next time you’re thinking of insulting someone’s mother on Carousell, think it over once more.

Otherwise, you could end up on camera and with zero dollars in your hand.
