While many people have been warned and fined for breaking safe distancing rules during the circuit breaker, they are still nowhere near as daring as the original rebels of the animal kingdom:
Cats.
Because while they may seem cute and innocent, these brave creatures are willing to go where many Singaporeans aren’t: areas taped off by the NEA.
Cats Have Now Taken Taped Areas As Their Homes But Still Keeping a Safe Distance
Now, I don’t want to paint all cats with the same brush here; many of them are law-abiding felines who are staying indoors working from home and getting all their food and milk delivered.
But, as with every species, there are always a few troublemakers who can’t stay in line.
Some citizens have been noticing that cats have been claiming areas taped off during the circuit breaker period as their homes.
Here are two particularly greedy cats who claimed a whole bench for themselves.
Cat: Oh, so only humans can sit on benches? That’s Speciesism.
What? I didn’t say that. I was just joki-
Cat: Your bed will be next.
*shudders*
A few other cats were found chilling on taped off public tables commonly found at void decks under HDB blocks.
One poor cat that looks like a chess set was looking for a chess partner, but she later realised that her feline friends were all practising safe distancing.
Basically, if a place was taped off with red and white tape, cats were there.
You might think that these cats just happened to choose these tables and chairs as a place to chill because it was empty, but no.
These cats knew what they were doing.
The cat police were called in to fine these law breakers but officers came across a cucumber on the way and immediately ran back to their homes.
You’re laughing now?
Don’t be, because it’s erm…serious.
Two Cats Have Covid-19
Two cats have tested positive for the coronavirus so far, one in Hong Kong and one in Belgium.
Experts say it is theoretically more likely that cats would get infected than dogs, but the chances are slim.
Plus, one vetinary expert said that there was no evidence that pets can get sick from Covid-19 or that they can transmit it to humans.
Be Careful, No Matter What Species You Are
If you’re a cat reading this, I’m impressed that you’re literate, but I also think you should follow the circuit breaker rules just in case.
Cat: Shut up human, I will do what I want.
And if you’re a human reading this, you should definitely be following the rules, because you won’t be given chances anymore. So, stay at home as much as possible and practise safe distancing when you go out.
Yes, the cats above were breaking the rules, but at least they were pracisting safe distancing.
Plus, did you see any of them throwing a hissy fit or a chair against the wall when they were caught?

In the meantime, for all the cats out there, you might want to download the Goody Feed app to read news about COVID-19 written in a light-hearted and easy-to-understand style (yet still informative), because if you depend on Facebook, you’d just be reading all the grimy news.
