Having an Instagram account is like having a butthole: if you don’t have one, people will assume that there’s something very wrong with you.
Instagram is where people post pictures of food, themselves, and their vacations to receive validation in the form of likes and shares.
It’s kind of like Facebook, except young people use it.
Even old politicians who were senior citizens when Facebook first launched have posted pictures on the gram, like Progress Singapore Party (PSP) chief Dr Tan Cheng Bock.
Dr Tan went from asking netizens how to rotate one of his photos to sharing memes of himself.

Now, another politician has joined the gram, and he’s even learned how to use Instagram Stories within a few days.
Chan Chun Sing Now Has an Instagram Account & He Even Used IG Stories
Hear the words cotton and sheep and you’ll think of our Minister of Trade and Industry, Chan Chun Sing.
On 8 Aug, the Tanjong Pagar MP shared his first ever post on Instagram, and thankfully, it wasn’t of his Wanton Mee or Prata.
Instead, the minister shared his view of a Buona Vista estate on the eve of National Day:
The post has received more than 1,000 likes, with many netizens welcoming the minister to Instagram.
It’s only been a day or so, but Chan already has over 5,000 followers, roughly 4,500 more than most normal folk.
He is following 78 accounts, most of whom are his fellow People’s Action Party (PAP) members.
But the question remains: why now?
Convinced to Join IG
In a Facebook post on 8 Aug, Chan explained that many people had encouraged him to create an Instagram account.
He was told that there were many Instagram users here, and that he was “missing out”.
“Well, it’s never too late to try something new,” he said.
“This is another avenue for us to stay in touch with and listen to one another. I look forward to connecting with you!”

A day after posting a shot of the Buona Vista estate, Chan caved and posted a picture of a cupcake.
Yes, it seems like everyone who joins the gram gets the food-picture-sharing disease. But, in his defence, it was a cupcake for the nation’s birthday.
