Diplomat Car Went Against Traffic in 2 Roads at Jalan Bukit Ho Swee

It’s no secret that no one likes inconsiderate drivers, regardless of who the driver is.

And this point was once again proven after a diplomat car was seen driving against traffic multiple times at Jalan Bukit Ho Swee recently.

Just yesterday (19 June), SG Road Vigilante – SGRV uploaded the following video to their Facebook page.

The video showed a car with the car plate number S1313CD driving in the opposite direction of the road twice despite the traffic signs on the road clearly indicating that they were one-way lanes.

In the caption of the post, it was written that the driver “insisted on driving against [the] flow of traffic”, even after they were “warned and [horned] at by motorists”.

The caption also shared that the incident took place at Jalan Bukit Ho Swee on Saturday (18 June) at 12.18pm, and that the car involved was an Audi A8L.

Apart from Facebook, the video was also posted on TikTok by TikTok user @rachxz with the caption “Initially i thought there was an accident cause i heard horning, but this is amazing.”

The video was later shared to a HardwareZone forum as well.

Car is a Diplomat Car; Driver and Passengers both Caucasian

For the uninformed, vehicles belonging to the Diplomatic Corps are identified by their car plates which end with “CD”.

TikTok user @rachxz also added in her comments that both the driver and passenger in the car were female Caucasians, suggesting that they might not be from Singapore.

Netizens’ Reactions

After watching the video, many netizens across the various social media platforms were quick to criticise the driver for not abiding by the traffic laws in Singapore, especially since she did it multiple times.

Some netizens also accused them of using the privilege they had of driving a diplomat car to disobey the traffic rules.

“They are protected unless accident happens if not nothing will happen to them the most write reports case close,” one Facebook user wrote.

Others added that it was pointless for other drivers to complain about the driver’s driving.

“Aiya this kind of number plate TP cannot do anything one lah,” one commenter said.

Others suggested that a report could be made to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) or the Land Transport Authority (LTA), and a handful of netizens demanded for action be taken against the driver as well.

Car Apparently from Embassy of the Netherlands

A user on the Hardware Zone forum added that the car was apparently from the embassy of the Netherlands.

The issue of whether or not the car was actually a diplomat car at that point in time was also raised, since there was no flag attached to the car according to the videos.

“Thought embassy car need to put the flag thingy when in used … if not it is just normal crew or staff driving nia ?” the user wrote.

However, there were also netizens who were more empathetic towards the driver and pointed out that she might just simply be unaccustomed to the roads in Singapore.

“They’re not familiar with our roads. Same thing when we drive abroad,” one commenter on the Hardware Zone forum wrote.

“Inside the car the woman is probably just panicking and wondering how and where to turn around. People make mistakes,” another user on TikTok mentioned in the comments section.

Another netizen living in the area added in the Hardware Zone forum, “I lived in that area all my life and that stretch of road is designed in a very strange manner. Even if you’re local driver and drive there for the first time, you may get confused.”
