Durian Seller in Tampines Becomes Superman
Most of us know that durian sellers have some kind of super powers, for they can handle durians without cutting themselves. But do you know that one of them is secretly a Clark Kent?
In a heroic act that would make even Superman proud, a durian stall vendor sprang into action when an elderly woman was robbed of her $600 withdrawal. With a swift stride and a chokehold move, he apprehended the thief and recovered the stolen money.
This incident unfolded on Wednesday (5 July) around 5 pm, near a POSB ATM located at Block 827 on Tampines Street 81.
Here’s what happened.
On that fateful day, an elderly woman was robbed, and a durian stall vendor, who was nearby, didn’t hesitate to intervene. He immediately stepped forward and grabbed the suspect.
Shin Min Daily News managed to get in touch with Huang Bai Wei (translated from Chinese; maybe that’s also translated from the name “Clark Kent”), the durian stall vendor aka Superman.
During the interview, he mentioned that he was off work that day and had come to visit his brother at his fruit stall.
According to Shin Min Daily News, the area was bustling with various shops, including grocery stores and fruit stalls.
“I heard a woman shouting, and then a male grocery store employee rushed to our fruit stall, saying that a man had robbed an elderly woman’s money and asked for our help,” Huang Bai Wei recalled.
Without wasting a moment, Huang Bai Wei dashed out of the store and spotted the suspect. “The man was quite skinny, wearing a white shirt, and was quickly subdued,” he said.
According to a video taken by a member of the public at the scene, he swiftly approached the white-shirted man who was preparing to leave the scene after the robbery. With a chokehold move, he quickly apprehended the suspect.
“Thankfully, he handed over the money, and the elderly woman was able to get her money back,” Huang Bai Wei said.
The police said that they received a report around 9:45 pm that day. Subsequently, they arrested a 46-year-old man involved in the case.
