If you’ve been avoiding the news and the COVID-19 vaccination like the plague, we have some bad news for you: From 13 Oct, all unvaccinated and partially vaccinated individuals will not be able to dine-in at hawker centres and coffee shops. They will also not be allowed in shopping malls as well.
Don’t worry, the gahmen is not planning on starving you (yet), for unvaccinated and partially vaccinated individuals are still allowed to purchase food to take away.
Additionally, you can also spot safe distancing enforcement officers doing overtime, conducting “selective” vaccination status checks on lucky patrons since there’s no SafeEntry system to filter out unvaccinated people.
What To Do If You’re Selected for a COVID-19 Vaccination Status Check?
During these checks, you are required to show the officers that special green tick that’s also known as the “vaccinated vaccination status” in your TraceTogether app.
If you do not have your mobile phone with you, you can provide your TraceTogether token where they can check your vaccination status.
If you have a valid pre-event test result, you can join other patrons and consume your wanton noodles at the hawker centres. This is applicable to unvaccinated, partially vaccinated and recovered individuals.
Children who are 12 years old and below can dine-in as well.
If you do not have your phone, TraceTogether token or a valid pre-event test result, you don’t need to starve (yet). You can still dabao or if you really want to dine-in, run back home to take these items – not sure why you’d want to do that, though.
Do note that the group size for dining in hawker centres and coffee shops is still two.
What if you have already consumed half your lor mee in the hawker centre and you want to continue eating it without running home to take all these things?
Well, you will then be warned and have your particulars recorded. If you do this multiple times, you will be punished.
To prevent such instances, various signages will be placed at the entrances of the hawker centres and coffee shops. You will also hear reminders through the public announcement system.
These checks will take place more often during peak hours.
Coffeeshop Operators May Check Your Vaccination Status
Since there are so many hawker centres and coffee shops hidden at our little red dot, the Singapore Food Agency will be working with coffeeshop operators to help check dine-in patrons’ vaccination status.
In the future, there may be fixed points within the coffee shops and hawker centres for vaccination status checks such as the drinks stall.
