Eunoia JC Rise To Internet Fame Again, This Time For Being S’pore’s First ‘High-Rise’ JC

Eunoia JC has been making waves ever since the idea of it was brought up.

The last time Eunoia JC made internet news was back in 2015 when Singaporeans first knew about their name.

How to pronounce?! You know ah… That was the general response.

Fast forward 3-plus years later and Eunoia Junior College (EJC) is on the headlines again.

But this time, for something good.

The First ‘High-Rise’ JC in S’pore

When you’re choosing where to go after secondary school, this is what you’d probably thought:

ITE = one to two years of secondary school with a school uniform but better-looking schools

Poly = cool, nice buildings, home clothes, interesting subjects.

JC = another two years of secondary school with a school uniform and boring school layout

Well, that used to be true until EJC hit the scene.

Because this is what EJC’s new school campus looks like:

If you’re impressed with the exterior, here’s what the interior looks like.

The interlocking building design.

And the library which looks out onto the panoramic view of the Ang Mo Kio-Bishan park.

And the lecture hall.

This isn’t a concert venue, guys.

Costs S$100 Million To Build

Eunoia JC is now the JC with the highest buildings in Singapore, with the highest being 12-storeys high.

While the total development cost isn’t finalised yet, the Ministry of Education (MOE) said that the campus cost S$100 million to build.

And the reason for the height is because the JC sits on a smaller plot of land, around 4-hectares big.

What It Has Besides Classrooms

The school is designed to foster collaboration and interaction between the students.

A library takes the entire ninth and tenth floors of the academic block with a beautiful view of the nearby Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park.

It also has an art studio and special learning rooms.

And unlike the libraries of the past where silence is golden, the school’s library has a stage where students “can perform spontaneously”.

Plus there are plenty of big, open spaces where students can choose to conduct activities.

And Bishan-North Community Centre is located within the school campus too.

All in all, way cooler than my JC life lah.

Students See Their Inputs Take Form

Remember back when you thought that nasty auntie at the canteen doesn’t deserve to sell food there?

EJC takes its students’ opinions seriously and sought for their inputs during the process.

Vendors who want to rent a stall at the school’s canteen have to go through a taste panel consisting of both the staff and students.

Students also gave their feedback on how they would like the spaces in the school to be furnished.

Here, you can see a video of the school campus here:

Not An Elite School

Eunoia JC current cohort is made up of 2/3 Integrated Program (IP) students and the remaining from the normal O-Level track.

However, they’ll like to emphasise that they’re not an elite school, and IP or not, these are students who grew up in the heartlands of Singapore.

They added that inclusivity, or making sure everyone feels included whether they’re IP students or not, is the focus from the start.

No matter where you come from, once you enter Eunoia Junior College, you’re a Eunoian.

The school will officially move into the new campus on 6 Jan 2020.
