You may have noticed a recent spike in Covid-19 cases in the country recently.
Many of them are imported cases, which makes sense given the rapid rise in cases globally in the past two weeks.
On Sunday, 15 Mar, the Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 14 new coronavirus cases. And while 9 of them were imported cases, the other five were linked to a cluster or previously confirmed cases.
And one of them happened to be working in the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
SCDF Officer Tested Positive For Covid-19
A Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officer who is based at Sengkang Fire Station tested positive for the coronavirus on Sunday (15 Mar).
According to MOH, the officer (Case 219) is a Singaporean citizen with no recent travel history to any affected countries and regions.
He last reported for work on Friday (13 Mar) and had not been involved in any response to emergency medical calls involving suspected or confirmed coronavirus infections, SCDF said in a statement.
Felt sick while on duty
The officer first felt sick on 13 March while on duty and immediately sought treatment at Sengkang General Hospital (SKH).
The hospital later confirmed that he had contracted Covid-19.
Before being admitted to SKH, however, the officer had visited Meiban Mold Manufacturer Pte Ltd located at Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park 2 and Furama Riverfront.
The man lives along Bishan Street 22, reported TODAYonline.

Linked to previous cases
According to MOH, the man is linked to three previous cases.
The first is Case 236 – a 30-year-old Singaporean woman who was one of the new cases announced on Monday (16 Mar). Case 236 is a family member of the officer.
The second is Case 211, a 35-year-old Filipina who is a Singapore long-term visit pass holder.
All three cases are linked to Case 142, a 26-year-old Singaporean man who went to a rock-climbing gym at Asperia Mall in Kallang and has links to the cluster involving a private dinner event at Safra Jurong on 15 Feb.
Premises have been disinfected
As with any other place with a Covid-19 infection, Sengkang Fire Station and any other SCDF premises that the officer had been to have been disinfected thoroughly, SCDF assured.
Caller: 995? There’s a huge fire in my house
995: Uh, we’re busy cleaning, can you handle it?
Ok, so obviously that didn’t happen. During the disinfection process, the nearest fire stations took over to ensure there was an uninterrupted provision of emergency services.
Moreover, those who have been in close contact with the officer have been instructed to stay home, monitor their health, and practise strict social distancing.
SCDF said it has been in touch with the officer’s family to “render support and assistance”.
At the time of writing, there are a total of 243 Covid-19 cases. 109 have been discharged and 13 are in the ICU. The conditions of the remaining patients are either stable or improving.
Let’s hope that the situation improves and that the spread starts to slow.
