Marriage.
It is the sacred binding of two individuals as they vow to love each other no matter what happens, to care for each other and to protect each other from all the harms of the world.
And even when couple fights occur, you’ll learn to compromise and understand each other, and solve all problems together by talking things through as matured adults.
But whatever happens, you should never resort to violence.
Unfortunately, it seems that not everyone is on the same page about this because a flight attendant was arrested after beating his wife until she blacked out.
Here’s what happened.
Believed His Wife Was Cheating On Him
In June last year, 36-year-old flight attendant Johannan Johari suddenly snapped and believed that his 35-year-old wife was cheating on him.
He told his wife that he wanted to create some online quizzes for work, so he borrowed her laptop and went into a separate room to do it, along with their two young children.
She later entered the room to check on their children and that was when she realised that he was actually viewing video footage from her in-car cameras.
He then accused her of having an affair.
Beating His Wife Until She Blacked Out In Front Of Their Children
Despite her repeated denials, he continued with his belief and even left the room to the kitchen to look at her phone.
Trailing behind the couple were their two children.
As they approached the kitchen, Johannan punched his wife once in the face in front of their children.
When she asked him for a reason to look through her phone, it pissed him off even more and he slapped her continuously.
At one point during the one-sided fight, she hit her head against the kitchen countertop.

Refused To Let Her Escape
She lost her balance and fell onto the ground but Johannan didn’t let her go. He kicked her in the ribs at least twice while checking her phone.
His wife was already in great pain and tried to beg him to stop as she started to lose consciousness.
Not wanting to end his outburst, he dragged her to the bathroom and sprayed water on her using the showerhead.
She choked on the water after it entered her nose, and he kept slapping her face so that she will not lose consciousness. He then pressed a towel against her forehead to stop the bleeding.
At this point in time, she could barely stand anymore from all the injuries that she had sustained.
He carried her to the bed and that was when she finally lost consciousness.
Taken To The Hospital
Coming to his senses, he quickly dialled her brother’s number and told him what happened.
He apologised and then asked her brother to come over immediately.
The ambulance was called and she was later sent to Sengkang General Hospital.
Her nose was broken and that she had a deep laceration over her right eyebrow, most likely from hitting against the kitchen counter.
She had to undergo minor surgical procedures and was only discharged from the hospital a week later.
The Court Hearing
Johannan pleaded guilty to one count of causing hurt to his wife.

District Judge Edgar Foo asked for a report to assess if Johannan was eligible for a day reporting order, which is essentially a community-based sentence for first-time offenders above the age of 16.
If he was, he would have to report to a day-reporting centre to be monitored and counselled. He would also have to undergo rehabilitation programmes.
This sentence is usually given after the judge’s consideration of the nature of the offence as well as the offender’s character.
The judge has allowed him to travel to Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States, and China for work from 16 March to 1 April.
He will be back in court on 4 April to be sentenced.

Domestic Violence
While it may seem like an uncommon issue, every three out of 10 people have faced domestic abuse, either themselves or they know someone who does.
If you find yourself or know someone in such a situation, please do not hesitate to call for help.
You should get medical attention for any injuries that you have sustained and you should report the incident to the police at their hotline, 999.
From there, you will be able to seek counselling and even be able to seek shelter in a crisis shelter.
And don’t worry about being hurt again because you can seek legal protection from your abuser.
