Former Malaysia PM Mahathir Mohamad Discharged on Friday After Being Admitted to the Hospital on Tuesday

There is a Chinese saying that people go through four stages in life. Birth, growing old, getting sick and dying.

It is a rite of passage that most, if not all, of us have to go through. No one, not even the wealthy and powerful, can escape this painful cycle.

The former Prime Minister (PM) of Malaysia, Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad, would know this.

The ex-PM was admitted and discharged today (4 August 2023).

Here is what happened to the former political leader.

Ex-PM Dr Mahathir Was Admitted to Hospital

Ex-Malaysian PM Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad was admitted to the National Heart Institute (Institut Jantung Negara) in Malaysia’s capital, Kuala Lumpur, earlier this week.

He was admitted on Tuesday to the institution.

The circumstances of Dr Mahathir’s hospital stay were largely kept under wraps back then.

His official Facebook page showed a tired-looking Dr Mahathir “going through some files at his hospital ward”.

The Cause of the Hospital Visit Was an Infection

Now, the cause of Dr Mahathir’s ailing health has been revealed.

The same Facebook post revealed why Dr Mahathir was in the hospital, stating that he was suffering from an “infection”.

Though, the post did not specify what sort of infection Dr Mahathir was suffering from.

Regardless of the illness, the ex-PM looked alert as he was pictured holding a pen and looking at some documents.

In the photos attached to the post, his writing hand can be seen bandaged.

Perhaps the bandage had something to do with his recent hospital stay.

The good news is that Dr Mahathir seems to be on the mend.

After about four days in the hospital, Dr Mahathir has been discharged today (on 4 August 2023).

The Straits Times reported that a source told AFP about Dr Mahathir’s discharge. The source did not elaborate on the discharge.

However, the road to health may be slow for the former PM as he had suffered heart problems in the past.

For example, he has had at least two heart attacks and has undergone no fewer than two bypass surgeries to treat his heart problems.

Well, even people who used to helm positions of power cannot escape the deterioration of the body.

For now, all that those following this news can do is hope that Dr Mahathir makes a speedy recovery.
