It is now March and the COVID-19 situation is showing no signs of abating, especially in places like South Korea where the number of confirmed cases and death tolls are rising rapidly.
This has prompted many celebrities and notable figures to help out in any way they can in the fight against the novel coronavirus.
This includes Heavenly King Leon Lai.
Reader Bao: Who’s that?
You must be young. This is Leon Lai:
Back in the days before Tiktok and Instagram took over our lives, we watched his movies and listened to his songs every single day.
He, together with fellow uncles Jacky Cheung, Andy Lau and Aaron Kwok, made up the Four Heavenly Kings in the 90s.
Heavenly King Leon Lai Personally Pack Care Packages in Fight Against COVID-19
Heavenly King Leon Lai has been volunteering with The Community Chest in Hongkong for over 20 years and has moved from being a board member of the charity to a vice patron.
Lest you’re unaware, there’s a shortage of surgical masks and sanitary products in Hong Kong. Or just about everywhere lah.
Thus, Leon and the Community Chest are providing 50,000 care packages for the less fortunate.
Handpacked By Leon Lai Himself
53-year-old Leon Lai helped to pack the care packages.
The care packages consisted of masks, rubbing alcohol, anti-bacterial spray, white rice, vitamin C tablets and packages filled with anti-inflammatory soup ingredients that the needy can cook up.
They will then be delivered to grassroots centres where Community Chest members will personally deliver them to the needy beginning this week.
Unsurprisingly, Leon Lai’s efforts and charitable actions have been lauded by impressed netizens.
They’re grateful that he’s taking the initiative to contribute to the community.
Not The Only Charitable Celebrity
He’s not the only charitable celebrity.
In fact, Hong Kong actor Steven Ma has founded an organisation called “Mr Ma’s ‘Warmth Delivery’ Group” which aims to give masks and hand sanitizers to the needy.
Steven Ma took to Facebook to announce that he has sent supplies to the charity organisations that are delivering to those in need and medical professionals in hospitals.
It’s heartening to see that so many celebrities are stepping up to help the less fortunate in times of crisis.
Let’s hope that the community continues to band together to overcome the COVID-19.
