Although we might have laughed the last time we saw former actor Joshua Ang on our screens, it’s safe to say that what he went through recently is no laughing matter.
Amidst the rise in cases of motorcycle accidents in Singapore recently, with one involving a young father-to-be, Ang took to Facebook to share his recent experience too.
On 24 March, Ang posted the following:
In the brief caption, he mentioned that he had been involved in a “super bad motorcycle accident” and that it had left his leg “completely disfigured”.
He then posted a few photos of his motorcycle a week later on 1 April, expressing his sadness as his vehicle was “most likely a total loss” after the accident.
Finally, on 9 April, Ang, who currently sells insurance, posted a lengthy caption and several photos to detail his unfortunate experience on the road.
In his post, he explained that he had been flung “about 6 to 7 metres” after a car knocked into his motorcycle.
“All I could remember was seeing bright lights and hitting my head against road 3 or 4 times. They say your life flashes before your eyes before you die, I can vouch for that,” he added.
Despite the frightening experience, Ang also reassured readers that he did not sustain any injuries to his face as he was wearing a full-face helmet at that time.
Impact of the Accident
Ang also explained that although he did not sustain any fractures in his legs, his injuries were still pretty severe.
“I tore my meniscus pretty badly from the impact and I’m still unable to walk properly till date. Will be starting physio next week and doing a surgery 2 to 4 weeks from now,” he wrote.
Driver Did Not Help
He then explained that the driver did not get out of his car to help him after the accident occurred.
“No apologies, no “are you okay?”, the driver didn’t even get down to help”, he recounted.
ESSO Workers and Others Helped Ang
Despite the driver’s actions (or lack thereof), a group of kind-hearted samaritans still came to Ang’s rescue.
“By the grace of God, the crew at Esso, along East Coast road, witnessed the accident and rushed to help me. There were also 2 medical personnel who walked past and bandaged my leg; and two foreign workers who took umbrellas to shelter me and offered me water,” he added in his post.
He also said that although he is unable to recall their names or faces, he is extremely grateful for their assistance.
Ang also thanked the paramedics and the healthcare workers at Changi General Hospital for their care towards him.
“I have no recollection of your names but I really appreciate all your comfort and care,” he said.
Lastly, he also thanked his orthopaedic doctor, Dr Edwin Tan from Cove Orthopaedic, as well as his partner for taking care of him.
And it seems like he might be retiring his motorcycle for good, as he ended the post by saying, “Sorry to be of so much trouble. No more riding for now I guess.”
Reaction to Recent Motorcycle Incident
After updating his followers about his own experience, Ang also commented on the recent incident that killed a 24-year-old motorcyclist.
In his caption, he expressed his condolences, and also urged other road users to be more careful and patient when they are driving on the road.
“There are a lot of riders out there who are just trying to put food on the table,” he concluded.
