The 33-year-old had amassed a following of over 600,000 in just 32 months on TikTok, known as Douyin in China.

Around the time of her death, she had been working as a security guard in a driving school in Yubei.

After hearing news of her death, some netizens pointed out that a fan had once offered the influencer a gift worth more than 100,000 yuan (around S$21,220) during one of her live streams.

However, he later asked her to return the gift after they had a quarrel. When she refused, the man grew incensed and allegedly murdered the woman.

While a suspect has been arrested, this story has not been confirmed by the authorities.

The victim’s husband also said that she was killed by a fan she met that night. At the time, he was in another city, unaware that they were meeting.

Chinese Influencer Dies After Netizens Urges Her to Drink Pesticides to ‘Prove’ Her Depression

This calls to mind a similar incident that was reported last month.

A famous Chinese influencer – Luo Xiao Mao Maozi – had revealed in a live stream on 15 Oct that she was suffering from depression. She said that while she looks happy on social media, netizens don’t know how she truly feels.

Instead of comforting her or advising her to seek help, some netizens reportedly demanded that she “prove” that she has depression by drinking pesticides.

Sadly she did just that, killing herself in the process.
