Leaked Info About Samsung S20 Shows It Looks Like an iPhone Too with 100X Digital Zoom

Samsung fans are in for a treat, because new details have been leaked about the Galaxy S20 range (previously Galaxy S11), and boy are they looking pretty good.

Name

Let’s start with the names. If you have been following the news about Samsung’s newest models, you would have known that they were supposed to be called the Galaxy S11. However, they’ve decided to change their branding and call the Galaxy S11e the Galaxy S20, the Galaxy S11 the Galaxy S20+ and they’re still considering whether to call the Galaxy S11+ the Galaxy S20 Ultra.

This range is also known as the Picasso because of its camera, and I’ll definitely talk more about that later under Specifications.

Specifications

As someone who is on her phone pretty much all the time, specifications and features of a phone would be my primary concern.

According to MySmartPrice, popular insider Ishan Agarwal has revealed the full specifications for the Galaxy S20 range, and there’s honestly quite a lot to be excited about.

Here is a table that compares the three new models for the range.

At first glance, you probably would have been able to notice that the best model of the three, the Galaxy S20 Ultra, boasts a 6.9″ screen with increased battery capacity. It also has a powerful camera upgrade, with a whopping up to 100x digital zoom.

How cool is that?

But the other two models aren’t lacking either. They too have increased battery capacities and bigger screen sizes with pretty good camera upgrades, and you can choose the model that suits you best.

Design

Now I’m sure design is also a very important feature, and thanks to Ishan Agarwal, we have official press renders of the new models.

Looking at the renders, you would have noticed that the front camera has been centralised and is definitely much smaller than those of older Samsung Galaxy models. The bezels have also become way thinner, which is great because your screen size is now even more optimised.

Is it just me or does this kind of remind you of the Apple iPhone 11 series?

The back has a camera hump, and it’s quite frankly the biggest talk of this line-up.

Camera

Samsung will equip the Galaxy S20 with a 48MP telephoto lens which is capable of 5x optical zoom. It will sit next to 48MP wide-angle lens, a ToF flight sensor and a 108MP primary camera on the Ultra model, which utilises pixel binning technology to create one large 2.4μm pixel with a 12-megapixel final image size.

In case you don’t know what that means, you will be able to see great improvements especially when you’re doing low light photography.

Display

As mentioned earlier, Samsung has increased their screen sizes whilst thinning their bezels.

With the new Galaxy S20 range, you will be able to get phones with screen sizes of at least six inches big:

  • 6.2-inch Galaxy S20
  • 6.7-inch Galaxy S20+
  • 6.9-inch Galaxy S20 Ultra

If you think that this is the only thing changing about the screen, think again. According to information from Xda Developers’ popular insider Max Weinbach, Samsung will apparently drop their iconic Edge display from the Galaxy S20 range. Whether it’s good or not will be left entirely up to you to decide.

Performance

The Galaxy S20 will be using Samsung’s newly launched Snapdragon 865 which boasts to have 20% faster graphics rendering than the Snapdragon 855 in the Galaxy S10. It is also said to have 35% more power efficiency, and with the upgraded LPDDR5 smartphone memory, you’re going to see that it’s 30% faster and 30% more efficient.

It is also believed that the range will have a minimum of 12GB RAM with up to 16GB in the Galaxy S20 Ultra, which is an insane amount that sets the bar for all other Andriod phones in 2020.

Biometrics

While it does look a lot like the Apple iPhone 11 series, this range is unlikely to be using Face ID. However, it will be adding a supersized Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max fingerprint sensor which is 17 times larger than the sensor used in the Galaxy S10.

It supports two fingerprints at the same time which will further enhance security especially when making financial transactions or logging into a banking app.

Battery Life

Samsung has brought about significant battery capacity upgrades with this new line-up:

  • Galaxy S20: 4,000mAh
  • Galaxy S20+: 4,500mAh
  • Galaxy S20 Ultra: 5,000mAh

You can also expect the 45W ‘Super Fast’ charging to come as a standard, but don’t expect their revolutionary graphene batteries to be used in this range because they’re not ready, though there are rumours that it might be released late this year.

Downsides

Samsung has cancelled their dual-aperture technology which they used for the Galaxy S9.

If you didn’t know, the dual-aperture technology was what gave the Galaxy S9 the edge over the iPhone X at the time of both their release, but Apple has since come a long way with new developments.

Since Samsung now has their camera upgrades to boast, it seems that they will be doing without the dual-aperture technology instead.

Another downside is the fact that the S20 doesn’t have microSD and also doesn’t have a headphone jack. So do get ready to invest in a pair of Bluetooth earphones if you like.

Release Date

The release date has been announced to be 11 February in the United States, and it’s unclear as to when it will arrive in Singapore. Hopefully we all don’t have to wait too long though!

So what do you think of the Galaxy S20 range so far? Are you going to get it the moment it gets released?
