We’ve always been told that the early bird catches the worm, and first-come-first-serve seems to be the standard procedure when it comes to business operations, especially with limited stock.
However, this was not the case for one woman who did not catch the worm despite being the earliest bird.
Here’s what went down.
Malay Woman Alleges That PrimaDeli Staff Told Her No More Waffles, Then Sold Last Waffle to Chinese Man Behind Her
On Saturday (26 Jun), Izah Ramizah Fahrin shared her experience at PrimaDeli on Facebook.
She claimed that she went to the PrimaDeli outlet at Bedok Mall on Saturday evening (26 Jun) at around 9:00pm.
She was told by two female Chinese staff at the outlet that there were no more waffles left to be purchased.
According to Mothership, Izah lingered around the outlet for a while after that to see if she could buy anything else.
Another Malay woman stopped by and attempted to order a waffle, but was also told by the staff that there were no more waffles available.
However, as Izah was about to leave, a Chinese man came and asked the staff in Mandarin whether they had any waffles left.
The staff allegedly responded in Mandarin saying that there was one more waffle left.
Izah said on Facebook that even though she is Malay, she understood “every single word of their conversation in Mandarin”.
According to Mothership, she was very “shocked and angry” at the incident. The man was indeed able to purchase his waffle in the end. She uploaded a photo as part of the Facebook post which showed the man waiting for the staff to serve up his waffle.
Izah then went to ask the two staff members why they sold a waffle to the man despite telling her that there were no more waffles left.
One of the staff members responded by telling her that there was only one left in a high-pitched tone, while the other simply stared at her.
She ascribed the incident to racism, and called on PrimaDeli to “take action” against the “racist staff” in her Facebook post.
“What kind of damn racism is this?? Just because the uncle is Chinese and talk in their language, they served him.”
Mothership further stated that Izah had reached out to the company via email after the incident. A representative had replied asking for her contact number, and she is waiting for a call from them.
PrimaDeli is aware of the incident and is currently investigating the matter.
