This week on Singapore Road Rage, courtesy of SG Road Vigilante (again), it features a heated argument between a Nissan driver and a taxi driver, which was filmed by the passenger sitting in the shotgun.
Usually, Goody Feed will put in their utmost effort to decipher the argument, even if it means possibly getting tinnitus, but this case is simply impossible.
The audio quality is great because it’s close-up, but the speed in which the argument is going, plus the spew of Hokkien insults is better left untranslated.
You just need to know that the two motorists are pissed off, and masks, no matter how constrictive, are wonderful accessories at times.
Motorist Spitting At Taxi Driver During the Confrontation
Although the Safety Management Measures (SMMs) have been greatly eased, masks are still required in indoor settings.
That includes private-hire cars and taxi interiors of course.
The whole point of wearing masks is to prevent the spray of mucus and saliva when a person is sneezing or talking, whether it’s intentional or unwittingly.
But these two motorists seem to completely miss the point as they are caught up in their argument.
According to the description attached, a verbal altercation between a Nissan driver and ComfortDelGro taxi driver broke out as the video taker and his wife were seated in the cab.
The reason for the argument is hard to make out, but clearly both drivers are livid enough that they pulled to the side of the road just to argue.
That takes some serious dedication.
They might be causing some obstruction on the road, but their argument was mostly met with an amused reception instead of irritation online.
They may gesticulate wildly with middle fingers, swear so much they put sailors to shame, but the true pièce de résistance?
Around the 4-second 18-second marks, both motorists spit at each other rudely, but one of them forgets that he is still wearing his mask.
Kudos for remembering to stick to the SMMs, but now your saliva is collecting in front of your face, which definitely isn’t a comfortable feeling.
It almost feels like a fitting punishment for the vulgarities that they threw at each other.
Something along the lines of, “Holding onto anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die”?
The following regret was very visible on the taxi driver’s face.
You can’t even say it’s undeserved. Let’s just hope that the taxi driver remembered to stash some spare masks in his car compartments, or else he’s going to have a bad shift for the rest of the day.
The Netizens’ Ill-Founded Humour
As of writing this article, the video has garnered more than 72,000 views.
Most of the Facebook users mock the two motorists, ranging from light rebuffs such as “stupid” to fully indulging in the Hari Raya spirit of resorting to Malay insults, calling the drivers “babi” (pigs) or calling them out for making a scene (kecoh).
One commenter even wrote, “This is the most hilarious road rage ever haha you guys made my day hahaha before the long holiday.”
The others just laughed at the taxi driver for the backfire of his own spit.
That being said though, it’s probably a good thing that they were wearing masks, because spitting is a punishable offence, and those found guilty can be fined up to S$2,000.
The mask naturally absorbed it, so they’re safe. (Ew.)
In any case, please keep your cool on the road, for the sake of passengers’ and your own safety. Lashing out in anger hardly solves anything, and we live in a civilised society.
Additionally, the pandemic is far from over and it’s best to refrain from spitting because it might expose others to unwanted germs, especially in closed-off settings.
Your pride can take a few hits, but your body and health can’t take that many.
Please travel safe on the roads.
If you can’t keep a lid on your anger, maybe play some calming Buddhist hymns in the background to help?
