While the number of confirmed cases in Singapore is still relatively under control as compared to in other parts of the world, the COVID-19 is still spreading.
In fact, Singapore’s largest cluster which is linked to a private dinner function at SAFRA Jurong now has 36 cases.
And the person who organised the event is now blaming herself.
Music Teacher Who Organised Dinner Event At SAFRA Jurong Blames Herself For The Covid-19 Incident
According to The Straits Times, the organiser of the private dinner event is a music teacher named Ms Liang Fengyi.
She has blamed herself for organising the event in the first place.
In fact, many of those who attended the private event were her own students who are in their 50s and 60s.
They had also mingled and come into contact with the guests from another dinner that was also happening that night, which was held at Joy Garden Restaurant located at SAFRA Jurong.
She Almost Cancelled The Dinner But Students Told Her To Continue
Ms Liang, 56 had initially wanted to cancel the dinner and was unsure if she should hold it given the current virus situation.
She then asked her students for their opinions but they encouraged her to go on with it and agreed that it should still go on as planned.
The dinner is a yearly event for the singing group and during this event, they would put on their own performances.
The event was held at Joy Garden Restaurant at SAFRA Jurong.
Some Were Infected With COVID-19 & Infected Family Members
Some of the attendees were infected with the coronavirus and later passed it on to their family members at home.
Since the incident occurred, Ms Liang has allegedly received criticism from the public for even organising the dinner in the first place.
As many as 200 people were present.
She also blames herself for the incident and feels that she is at fault for hurting her students.
However, Ms Liang also contracted the COVID-19 but is “feeling well”. She is also confident that she should be discharged soon.
Mingled With Diners From Another Ongoing Dinner
There was yet another dinner that was occurring in another part of the same ballroom as Ms Liang’s. The dinners were separated by a partition.

A dialect singing community also attended the dinner and there were around 400 guests.
Hence, some of the guests knew each other and hence they mingled around.
It was also reported that the confirmed cases had frequent contact with each other during their singing lessons.

At the end of the day, this occurrence was an unfortunate situation and event that could’ve happened to everyone.
Though the COVID-19 rages on, each and every one of us still needs to go on with our lives.
As of 9 March, there are currently 160 cases of the novel coronavirus in Singapore. Out of this, 93 patients have fully recovered and have been discharged.
10 are in ICU, while the remaining patients are either stable or improving.
MOH announced today that tourists and other short-term-visit pass holders in Singapore have to pay for Covid-19 treatment since 7 March 2020 to “prioritise resources at hospitals”.
