On Friday (3 Sep), 210 community cases were reported, the highest number since COVID-19 emerged.
Typically, when this happens, the coronavirus would be satisfied and take a break for a while.
But, as yesterday’s case count shows, you can never predict what COVID-19 is going to do next.
253 Locally Transmitted Cases
Yesterday (4 Sep), 253 new locally transmitted cases were reported.
This is not only our highest daily community case count ever, but also the second day in a row that it has broken that unwanted record.
In addition, there were six imported cases, all of whom were placed on stay-home notice or isolated upon their arrival here.
New COVID-19 Cluster at a Student Care Centre
Three new COVID-19 clusters were identified by the Ministry of Health (MOH), including a student care centre.
Radiance Student Care Centre, situated along Serangoon Ave 3, had two new cases, bringing its total to four.
The other two clusters are:
- Sembcorp Marine Tuas Boulevard Yard – one new case, eight in total
- Orient Goldsmiths & Jewellers staff- two new cases, three in total
With the closure of one cluster, we now have 62 active clusters.
CGH & Bus Interchange Clusters Grow
Meanwhile, several of our existing clusters have continued to grow, including those linked to staff working at bus interchanges.
They are:
- Tampines Bus Interchange staff – two new cases, 32 in total
- Boon Lay Bus Interchange staff – six new cases, 99 in total
- Toa Payoh Bus Interchange staff – 11 new cases, 130 in total
- Clementi Bus Interchange staff – five new cases, 34 in total
- Punggol Bus Interchange staff – two new cases, 35 in total
In total, there are now 416 cases in all the clusters at bus interchanges.
Besides that, the Changi General Hospital (CGH) cluster, as well as the Bugis Junction cluster, had more additions as well.
The CGH cluster, which is the second active cluster at the hospital, had 21 new cases, bringing its total to 36.
6 more cases were added to the Bugis Junction cluster, which now has 261 cases.
608 Cases in Hospitals; 5 in ICU
At the moment, there are 608 COVID-19 cases in hospitals, of whom most are well and under observation.
22 severe cases require oxygen supplementation, and five cases are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
Of these 27 cases, 22 were patients above the age of 60. 12 of them are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.
Vaccination Progress: 81%
Like saving progress for a video game on a broken console, our vaccination progress was stuck at 80% for a few days.
But now, 81% of our population has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. 83% have received at least one dose.
This includes 86,019 recipients of other vaccines recognised in the World Health Organization’s emergency use listing.
Booster Shots: Recipients May Not Get Same Vaccine as Earlier
A few days ago, it was announced that certain vaccine recipients will be offered a booster shot in the future.
This includes those who are moderately to severely immunocompromised, seniors aged 60 and above, and residents of aged care homes.
However, the booster shot you get may be from a different vaccine than the one you took for your earlier doses.
The authorities are still considering both approaches, as they both have their pros and cons.
For seniors, they may be invited to go for their booster shot six to nine months after completing their primary vaccination regimen.
