Just like our hopes of launching a travel bubble with Hong Kong, our daily case count is dwindling.
What’s more, no new cases were added to the Jurong Fishery Port/Hong Lim Market and Food Centre cluster, which remains our biggest active cluster.
There were, however, three new clusters and a relatively high number of unlinked cases.
Here are the details:
59 Locally Transmitted
The days when we reported over 100 new COVID-19 infections daily seem to be over, and thank goodness for that.
Yesterday, the authorities recorded 59 locally transmitted cases, of whom 19 are unlinked.
For the first time since 15 June, there were no imported cases.
Three New Clusters Reported, Including Yet Another Preschool
Of the three new clusters, one was linked to SAFRA Tampines, and another to My First Skool, a preschool located at 54 Chin Swee Road.
The SAFRA cluster now has nine infections, while the preschool cluster has six.
The remaining cluster is linked to an individual case – Case 67981 – and has three cases. No further specifics were provided by the Ministry of Health (MOH) on the cluster.
Meanwhile, another existing preschool cluster grew, as six more infections were linked to the cluster at Superland Pre-School. Located at Kreta Ayer Community Club, the cluster now has 10 cases.
There are now a total of 119 active clusters in the country.
470 Cases Warded in Hospital; Nine in ICU
Currently, 470 COVID-19 cases are warded in the hospital, most of whom are well and under observation.
36 severe cases require oxygen supplementation while nine are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
Five of the above 45 cases are fully vaccinated. 37 of them are above 60 years old and have fallen very ill; 32 of them are either partially vaccinated or not vaccinated at all.
According to MOH, the percentage of those who have become severely ill or died from COVID-19 over the last 28 days is 9.3% for unvaccinated patients and 0.9% for vaccinated ones.
Vaccination Progress: 73%
73% of the population has been fully vaccinated as of Wednesday (11 Aug), with nearly 4 million people having completed their full vaccination regimen.
This includes recipients of 141,405 doses of other vaccines recognised in the World Health Organization’s Emergency Use Listing, which covered 82,881 people.
Additionally, 81% has received at least one dose.
“Severe Penalty” For Those Who Use Someone Else’s Vaccine Cert to Dine at Restaurants
Remember when PMDs were banned on footpaths and people started riding on the grass, drains, and even atop bus stop shelters?
Well, it seems that when a new law is introduced, there will always be people trying to circumvent it.
Some people have reportedly been dining at restaurants lately, using someone else’s vaccination certificate as proof.
As you know, only fully vaccinated individuals can dine in at restaurants, and have to first show proof of vaccination before entering.
However, as Health Minister Ong Ye Kung said, some people are circumventing the requirement, and the authorities are aware of it.
“The authorities will enforce against this, and offenders will face (a) severe penalty. It is not worth it. Take a PET if you have to attend a dinner or event,” he said.
Unvaccinated people can still dine in at coffee shops and hawker centres in groups of two, as can vaccinated individuals.
