Another place is on board a flight on 25 February that was travelling from Singapore to Auckland.

Air New Zealand confirmed on Wednesday (4 March) of a case of the COVID-19 onboard a 25 February flight from Singapore to Auckland.

The airline announced in a travel alert on its website, “The customer travelled from Singapore to Auckland on flight NZ283 on 25 February, then flew from Auckland to Palmerston North on flight NZ5103 on 2 March, returning to Auckland on NZ8114 the same day.”

“We are working closely with the Ministry of Health and Government agencies to identify and proactively contact customers who travelled on the Singapore service and the two regional flights.”

Female Patient Returning From Holiday In Northern Italy

New Zealand media reported that the female patient was returning from a holiday in northern Italy (which has seen a surge in confirmed cases) and was in isolation at home.

Never fear though, because Air New Zealand says they’re prepared.

Air New Zealand Chief Medical Officer Doctor Ben Johnston said that the airline had “anticipated and planned for the scenario” and had a “robust process to manage its response”.

Deep Cleaned Aircraft

They assured the public that the aircraft has been thoroughly deep cleaned from surfaces like tray tables to headsets.

“The health and safety of passengers and crew is Air New Zealand’s top priority and our aircraft already undergo a thorough cleaning process, which includes cleaning surfaces such as tray tables and inflight entertainment screens with a disinfectant that kills viruses.”

“We also remove all headsets, headrest covers, pillow covers, and blankets after every international flight. Domestic and regional services surfaces and bathrooms are wiped with disinfectant spray.”

“The three aircraft this customer flew on will now also undergo a deep clean.”

Aircraft Cabin Air Quality

Now, if you’re worried about anyone you know on that flight, let them know so they can go check.

Also, keep in mind that the air quality within the aircraft cabin is way cleaner than other enclosed spaces since it’s circulated all the time.

Unlike enclosed rooms, the air within an aeroplane’s cabin is constantly circulated and there is a change of air every 2 to 3 minutes.

Even the filters underneath the floor are good enough for hospitals where 94 to 99.9 per cent of airborne microbes are filtered away.

Singapore To Implement Travel Ban To Travellers From northern Italy, South Korea and Iran

Singapore has announced that it will begin to ban entry or transit in Singapore of travellers who have been to northern Italy, South Korea and Iran within the last 14 days from 11.59pm on Wednesday.

These are the three countries with the largest number of confirmed cases of the COVID-19 outside of China.
