Have you been to a supermarket lately?
If so, you’d notice something: items might disappear from the shelf but an hour later, they’ll magically reappear.
That’s because supermarkets seem to progressively stock up their shelves to prevent hoarders from starting their own minimart at home.
But do they have enough in their warehouse?
According to NTUC FairPrice CEO, Seah Kian Peng, it is a resounding yes.
NTUC FairPrice CEO Says Their Warehouse is ‘Quite Full’ So Prices of Essentials to Remain Affordable
The CEO of NTUC FairPrice is also a Member of Parliament for Marine Parade GRC.
On Monday (6 April 2020), as he spoke in Parliament as the CEO of FairPrice, he said, “I would like to assure everyone in the House, and Singaporeans outside, that our warehouses are quite full. We have rice, canned food, toilet paper, cooking oil, instant noodles. We have fruits and vegetables. We have meats, fresh and frozen.”
However, he admitted that prices of certain items have increased recently due to higher demand globally, increase in production costs and shipping and freight charges.
Nevertheless, FairPrice is going to keep fair pricing.
He added, “But be assured that we will continue to do our best to moderate these price increases and make it affordable to all.”
So if you’re worried that prices of daily essentials would increase, relax—unless the COVID-19 last for years, you should still be able to afford toilet papers to keep your butt clean.
