If you’re reading this sentence, thank yourself because people who are used to reading just the headlines are probably heading to supermarkets now, hoarding countless toilet rolls and wondering why there are no queues.
In a sudden move, PM Lee said on Facebook that he’s going to deliver a speech at 4pm tomorrow (31 May).
Now, remember: co-chair of the multi-ministry task force fighting COVID-19 and newly-minted Finance Minister, Lawrence Wong, also said that there would be a press conference tomorrow.
Lest you’ve forgotten, this arrangement of PM Lee giving a speech followed by a press conference was often reserved for bigly announcements: it happened during the Circuit Breaker announcement, the announcement of the Circuit Breaker extension and the move into different phases.

The number of new community cases has stabilised over the last two weeks. Our tightened measures to keep Singaporeans safe are working. Thank you for staying home and complying with the guidelines.
Tomorrow, I intend to share with you how we plan to keep COVID-19 under control, while progressively opening up again. The solution: testing, contact tracing, and vaccinating, all faster, and more. Also: What will the new normal be like?

Simply put, I bet all my assets that we’re moving to Phase 2.5, Phase 3 or even Phase 10.
It could be a lot more testing, a lot more contact tracing and a lot more needles, but speculation is a dangerous game so let’s just remind ourselves of what Minister Lawrence Wong said on Friday:
- Heightened alert measures look to be working
- No further measurements are required (yet)
Based on yesterday’s figures, the number of new cases in the community has decreased from 199 cases in the week before to 138 cases in the past week. The number of unlinked cases in the community has also decreased from 48 cases in the week before to 23 cases in the past week.
Today, MOH reported 19 community cases, with 6 of them unlinked.
