Before you head down to your nearest NTUC FairPrice to stock up on the toilet rolls, here’s something you need to know: PM Lee isn’t going to talk about lockdowns; he’s going to talk about the path to a new normal.
So unless I live in an alternate universe, it most probably mean we’re moving to the next stage in our reopening plans.
PM Lee to Address the Nation Tomorrow (9 Oct) at 12pm About COVID-19 & The Path to a New Normal
In the last few days, daily cases have been above 3,000, but toilet rolls are still in stock, so no one’s panicking yet.
In fact, just hours ago, it was revealed that Singapore and South Korea are starting a vaccinated travel lane from 15 November 2021.
So when PM Lee made this announcement, no one’s heart skips a beat:
In the post, he said that he would be “addressing Singaporeans on the COVID-19 situation and the path to a new normal” tomorrow at 12pm. He also added this: “Please carry on as per normal — there is no need to rush out to stock up on items or dine out!”
You can watch his address on his Facebook Page, or any mainstream TV channels.
Singapore’s Reopening Plan
Lest you’re not aware, before the surge in cases, Singapore actually has another plan to transit to a “COVID-19 Resilient Nation” with this timeframe:
Preparatory Stage: 10 Aug to Early Sept (to make adjustments to healthcare protocols)
Transition Stage A: It was initially expected to start in Sept, whereby Singapore will further open up its economy and “lives will be more normal”, and there will be more cases
Transition Stage B: Not revealed yet
COVID-19 Resilient Nation Stage: Not revealed yet
As you probably know by now, due to a surge in cases, a Stabilisation Phase is added from 27 Sept to 24 Oct (between the Preparatory Stage and Transition Stage A), which we’re in now.
So, would we “level up” tomorrow? Would we see the cup again?
