Do you want to be like Cristiano Ronaldo?
Well, you can, if you’re healthy, aged between 16 and 60, and weigh at least 45kg.
And no, I’m not talking about being as rich or being as skillful as the Portugal national team captain, or to dance for Shopee.
I’m talking about being as kind-hearted as the footballer, who not only donates blood regularly since he was 24 years old but also advocates for blood donation.
And now’s the best time to do so if you’ve not done it before.
Singapore Blood Stock for ALL Groups Fell to Low Levels
Lest you’re a Baby Shark who doesn’t know anything about blood donation, just hear this: for each blood donation you went for, you save three lives.
Yeah, real heroes wear this instead of a cape:
Today, it’s revealed by the Singapore Red Cross and Health Sciences Authority (HSA) that Singapore’s stock for all blood groups has fallen to low levels.
The amount of O blood in stock is only half of what is needed.
So yeah, more blood is needed to save lives.
In order to ensure that the blood stock is enough, they need 1,500 donors with type O blood, 750 donors with type A and 750 donors with type B to donate blood over the next three weeks.
They said, “This will ensure that we have enough blood to support patients’ transfusion needs and medical emergencies in Singapore.”
Where to Donate
If you’re new to blood donation and your inner Cristiano Ronaldo is calling out to you, then here are the places you can head to to save some lives:
It’ll take agak agak one hour for the entire process, including the waiting time and doctor’s appointment, though I’m not certain if it’ll be longer during this period.
But hey: time is precious, but people’s lives are even more precious. Just read all the articles in our app lah while you’re there lah.
Lest you’ve skipped the top part of the article, just take note of this: you need to be healthy, aged between 16 and 60, and weigh at least 45kg.
You can go to www.hsa.gov.sg/donor_criteria for more info.
And if you’re a regular blood donor and haven’t donated in the last three months, now’s the perfect time to go back and visit your favourite nurse!
Things to Note
The process to donate blood is relatively easy: just head down to any of the Blood Bank locations and fill up a form.
You’d then go through a short consultation with a doctor (free check-up, yo!) and be tested for your iron level, so make sure you watch Iron Man consume some iron-rich food before heading down. You would be asked to come back if your iron level is low.
After that, you’ll just sit down and chat with the nurse, who’s always friendly. If you want to, bring your bae along so that he or she can just sit beside you to chat.
Then everything will be done; simple as that!
So go save some lives now!
(I think also got a needle lah but it’s like an ant’s bite lah please don’t read this)
