River Hong Bao & Chingay 2020 to Go On Despite Wuhan Virus Threat

You know what they say: The Show Must Go On.

Or in this case, Chingay and River Hongbao events must go on (with extra measures, of course).

River Hong Bao & Chingay 2020 to Go On Despite Wuhan Virus Threat

Unlike in Wuhan where the virus has caused mass disruption in their day-to-day living as major events are cancelled and some transportation are shut down, Singapore is doing quite the opposite.

Community events in Singapore are scheduled to go on as per normal, albeit with some tweaks to ensure everyone’s safety and wellbeing.

“Enhanced measures” will be put into place, according to the Minister for Trade and Industry Chan Chun Sing.

He announced during a press conference on 27 January that event organisers will carry out the event in compliance with the guidelines provided by the Ministry of Health (MOH).

Enhanced Measures Like Temperature Screenings & More Medical Staff

Since the events are larger in scale, enhanced measures for temperature screenings will be put into place.

In addition to that, more medical staff will also be on duty to render help if deemed necessary.

Contractors, volunteers, local and overseas performers at the event will also need to adhere to the MOH guidelines.

Chan said, “…we advise people who are not feeling well to seek medical help immediately and avoid participation in activities with large crowds. And most importantly, we encourage everyone to take personal hygiene measures to safeguard their own wellbeing.”

River Hong Bao 2020

It’s pretty admirable that the two large scale events will go on as scheduled.

For those who are unaware, River Hong Bao is an annual carnival to commemorate Chinese New Year and spread Chinese culture.

This year’s event is scheduled to take place until 1 February.

Every single year, it attracts a million participants, wherein a third come from abroad.

This year, it will feature more than 40 stalls selling Singapore-inspired food like Otah and Bak Kwa.

There will also be prizes up for grabs including a pair of Singapore Airlines business class tickets between Singapore and Seattle.

Last but not least, there will be gorgeous fireworks against Singapore’s skyline:

Chingay 2020

Just like River Hong Bao, Chingay is an annual massive event celebrate the Chinese New Year, and was first started in 1973 – way before some of you were born.

Just like previous years, the main event will take place in the F1 Pit Building, and it’ll be for two days: 31 January 2020 and 1 February 2020 between 8.00pm to 9.45pm.
