Attention to all parents – the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) just announced a recall on 19 February, Saturday, of Abbott Alimentum, a brand of powdered infant formula.
This is because certain batches of the product contain the possible presence of pathogenic bacteria.
Parents or caregivers who have bought the infant formula were strongly advised to stop using the product and seek medical assistance immediately if their babies feel unwell after consuming the product in question.
What To Note For Parents Who Have Bought Abbott Alimentum Milk Powder
SFA said that affected batches have codes that contain the first two digits “22” up until “37” and the following letter-number combinations “K8”, “SH” or “Z2”.
The affected product will also have an expiration date of 1 April 2022 or later.
SFA has since directed Abbott Laboratories in Singapore to recall the affected batches. The recall of the Abbott Laboratories product is still ongoing.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has also issued a notice that they are working with Abbott Nutrition to initiate a voluntary recall of the Alimentum powdered infant formula in the United States due to the possible presence of Cronobacter sakazakii and Salmonella Newport, which are pathogenic bacteria.

Impacts of Getting Infected by Pathogenic Bacteria
Cronobacter sakazakii can survive even in dry conditions such as powdered infant formula. This pathogenic bacteria can cause meningitis or sepsis. Symptoms of infants getting infected by this bacterium include fever, poor feeding, or lethargy.
Salmonella Newport can cause gastrointestinal illness and infected infants could experience fever, abdominal cramps, and diarrhoea.
If your babies are experiencing any of the symptoms or feel unwell after consuming this product, please seek medical assistance immediately from a healthcare professional.
After all, it’s better to be safe than sorry these days.
