If there’s anything that brings us happiness, it would be having a good snack. But, as with many things, safety’s first.
Snack Recalled Over Undeclared Almond Allergen
In a media release on Friday (11 Feb), the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) mentioned that they had issued a recall for the highly popular Tohato Caramel Corn Original Flavour products. The snack contains an undeclared tree nut (almond) allergen.
The agency is taking this step following the recall alert issued by Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ).
The implicated products were imported into Singapore. Hence, SFA has directed the involved importers—Redmart Ltd and JFC (S) Pte Ltd—to recall the product.
“The recall is ongoing,” SFA added.
Tohato packages the snack in bright red retort pouches, with a packing size of 80 grams. At the package’s front, there is an image of the snack inside the “mouth” of a printed character.
SFA highlights, “Consumers who have purchased the affected product, and who are allergic to almonds, should not consume it.”

The agency also urges those who had already consumed the product to seek medical advice. Consumers may contact their point of purchase for enquiries.
“Best before” dates are also coming in handy; you can check if you have purchased an affected product. According to SFA, the affected batches have “best before” dates up to and including:
- 11 Jan 2022
- 12 Mar 2022
- 05 Apr 2022
- 12 Apr 2022
- 10 May 2022
- 13 May 2022
- 22 May 2022
Though the subject of the recall, the widely loved snack is the recipient of many positive online reviews.

Other Instances of Food Recalls
This isn’t the first time SFA stepped in to take products off the shelves due to undeclared ingredients. In recent years, they have also recalled products ranging from quinoa puffs to cooking pastes.
Spring rolls and pastry products too.
In these products, undeclared milk allergens, as well as fish allergens, were causes for concern.
