With the Wuhan virus epidemic being the coffee shop topic nowadays, I don’t know why you’re still looking forward to the chalet you’ve planned with your friends.
But if you have and are worried that your chalet plan might have been cancelled, fret not: the chalets involved aren’t those mainstream ones like D’Resort @ Downtown East or Aloha Loyang Chalet (now known as Civil Service Club @ Loyang).
Instead, it’d be chalets that you probably hadn’t heard before.
Some Chalets in S’pore Have Been Turned into Quarantine Centres to Fight Wuhan Virus
The Heritage Chalet, SAF Changi Chalets and the HomeTeamNS Sembawang Chalets have been converted into quarantine centres.
The reason why these chalets sound so alien to you is that they can only be booked by SAF and Home Team personnel. And it’s so alien, even I, an SAF NSman, am not aware of the existence of these chalets, though I’ve heard of “cheap chalets for SAF people” before.
Since they’re for uniformed personnel, they’re also owned by the Government.
According to the Ministry of National Development, they’ll house people who are well and who may have been exposed to an infectious agent, and may be infected, but are not yet ill.
They added, “The Government will ensure that all persons served with quarantine orders will be housed in appropriate locations… Care will be taken to make sure the rooms are safe for stay.”
So if you kena a quarantine order, just treat it as a free chalet lah.
But if needed, you might need to cancel your chalet plans because back in the past, more chalets had turned into quarantine centres.
SARS & H1N1 Battles Include Bigly Chalets Like Aloha Loyang Chalet (now known as Civil Service Club @ Loyang)
You’d have been to Aloha Loyang Chalet before, and you know how bigly that place is.
Back in 2003, during the SARS outbreak, the entire premises was turned into a quarantine centre.
That’s a lot of units.
And in the 2009 H1N1 outbreak, the Aloha Loyang Chalet, People’s Association Holiday Flats and HomeTeamNS chalets were designated as a quarantine centre.
And for your info, back in those days, there were no complaints at all.
So if you’ve booked a chalet and had your plan disrupted, you’d better not complain if not we’d be sure to write about you and your strawberry antics.
