Late last night, in the final hour of Friday the 13th, a man made the news when he set a fire outside a Neighbourhood Police Post (Kallang Neighbourhood Police Post) at Towner Road, which is near Boon Keng MRT Station.
Lest you’re wondering why there were no cops running out of the NPP to stop the man, it’s because unlike Neighbourhood Police Centres that are open 24 hours, NPPs are only open from 12pm to 10pm daily.
And with the fire taking place at 11:10pm, police were called in to the police post.
Man Sprayed “ISIS” and “F*** PAP” on Nearby Wall
The man did more than just arson; he went to nearby walls to spray the words “ISIS” and “F*** PAP”.
Which, of course, led to netizens thinking that it’s a “terrorist attack”.
But it seems like it’s just an unhappy man. A very unhappy man.
SPF: Not a Terrorism Act
SPF provided more details about the incident, and it turns out that it’s just a man who’s really unhappy with how the world works.
According to their preliminary investigations, the man had set fire to a few bags of clothes using either petrol or diesel in front of the police post.
And he did more than that: he even smashed the glass door of the police post.
Fortunately, it’s now confirmed that no one was injured; not even the culprit.
The police are going to seek a court order to send him for psychiatric assessment.
But how about those words sprayed on the wall?
The police said that preliminary investigations showed he had acted alone and the act isn’t terrorism-related.
As for why he had done that, it was because he was “unhappy with perceived social inequality.”
He would be charged in court today for mischief by fire under Section 435 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224.
In other words, it’s of course still safe to go to Boon Keng to have your chicken rice lah.
