Our very own home-grown actress Chantalle Ng has been nominated for Best Female Lead at the ContentAsia Awards 2024!
This recognition is for her outstanding performance as Li Zhenyu in the Mediacorp drama All That Glitters. If you haven’t watched the show, Li Zhenyu is a visually disabled character and Chantalle’s portrayal has been nothing short of charming and amazing.
Among her competitors are Hong Kong’s Charmaine Sheh, who’s famous for her role as Sister Man in The Queen Of News, and has already bagged the Best Actress award at the TVB Awards earlier this year, Rosy Zhao from China, Kim Chiu from the Philippines, and Thailand’s Anne Thongprasom and Bella Ranee Campen.
Despite the stiff competition, Chantalle remains humble. Speaking to the press, she confessed that she is not confident of winning the award but it is already “good enough to be nominated”.
Chantalle has already taken home a handful of acting awards throughout her many years as an actress.
After winning Best Newcomer at the 2018 Star Awards, she went on to win Top 10 Most Popular Female Artist in both the 2023 and 2024 Star Awards.
And she is only going to get bigger from here; Chantalle is set to play the role of a para swimmer who suffers from Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease in the upcoming Mediacorp television series, Hope Afloat, as well as the villain role in the highly-anticipated spin-off of Mandarin hit series The Little Nonya, Emerald Hill!
The former series will air on 29 July 2024, while the latter is set to air in 2025!
Adding to the excitement, veteran actor Duan Weiming, known for his role as Larry in the hawker drama 128 Circle, has also been nominated for Best Male Lead.
At 63, even after a major health setback last year when his left leg was amputated below the knee, Duan’s nomination is a testament to his enduring talent and dedication to his craft.
He will be up against fellow actors Tony Eusoff from Malaysia, Jefri Nichol from Indonesia and Gagan Dev Riar from India.
Titoudao: Dawn Of A New Stage 2’s Shrey Bhargava and My One And Only’s Zhai Siming are both up for Best Supporting Actor.
This year has been stellar for Mediacorp productions as well, with a whopping 17 nominations at the ContentAsia Awards. From intense crime thrillers to heartwarming reality shows, our content really has been capturing the attention of many.
