If you’ve just read the first part of the headline, you’d think that Singapore Pools is closing all its outlet, and your chance of becoming a millionaire during the COVID-19 outbreak period is gone.
Well, don’t worry; Goody Feed is here to clear the air.
S’pore Pools Closing Livewires & Off-Course Betting Centres; Normal Outlets Still Open
People are confused because of one reason: they’ve no idea what Livewire is, and they think that off-course betting centres are those typical Singapore Pools outlet that made everyone feel richer whenever they leave the premises.
Like this:
Well, no.
Livewire is basically a big Singapore Pools outlet that shows live events in the premises; during normal days, it’ll broadcast races and 4D / Toto draws, while on days with major soccer matches (e.g. World Cup), you can watch a match there.
You need to be above 21 to enter, and must bet at least $50 before you can be admitted in.
Currently, there are three outlets:
- Marina Bay Sands
- Resort World Sentosa
- Singapore Pools Building
I’ve been to one outlet before it’s just like an atas bar with big screens.
So of course it has to close lah; it’s essentially an entertainment venue, though some look at it as a place to become the next millionaire.
What’s confusing is the off-course betting centres.
That, my friend, isn’t those typical Singapore Pools outlets.
Instead, they’re, once again, like a Livewire outlet, but instead of showing those 4D / Toto draws or soccer matches, they show the local horseracing instead.
And as usual, it should be closed since it serves the same function: entertainment with close contact.
In other words, your usual weekend hangout place to huat is still open, though there have been safe distancing measures made since 21 March 2020, which includes regulated access, physical separation measures at queues, shortened operation hours and closing of selected centres.
As of now, it’s still unknown if casinos in Singapore would still be open or not.
