Left The Taxi Outside Of Gleneagles Hospital Without Stopping It Properly
Ho was driving a passenger to Annex A building of Gleneagles Hospital. He then stopped and went out of the vehicle to retrieve his passenger’s wheelchair from the boot.
This was when things went wrong.
He didn’t stop the taxi properly and the taxi inched forward after he had left the taxi.
He immediately returned to the driver’s seat and tried to step on the brakes. However, instead of doing that, he accidentally stepped on the accelerator pedal instead.

Taxi Crashed Into 2 Vehicles
The taxi subsequently crashed into a stationary vehicle and injured its driver who was 31 years old at the time.
But that’s not all.
It later crashed into a car park gantry and slammed into another taxi (a Trans-Cab taxi) that was turning into the hospital.
The impact killed Mr Suparno and injured two other passengers and the driver within the second vehicle.
You can watch the video from the Trans-Cab taxi’s in-car camera.
The taxi that Mr Soparno was in was slammed into so violently that the vehicle veered away from its original path into the kerb.
You can see how badly damaged the side of the vehicle was.
Victims’ Injuries
Mr Soparno, who already had underlying heart conditions, was rushed to the Accident & Emergency department with rib fractures, low oxygen levels and shortness of breath.
He died later that same day, with his heart disease worsening the injuries he suffered due to the accident.
The 5 other casualties suffered back and neck injuries.
Ho suffered a 3cm-deep cut on his ear and an abrasion on his toe.
Ho Pleads Guilty To Causing Death
Ho is currently awaiting sentencing on 17 March but he has pleaded guilty to a total of 3 charges.
He is responsible for one person’s death due to negligence and also faces 2 other charges relating to the injuries suffered by the other victims.
For his offences, he could be jailed for up to two years, find, or both.
While this is undeniably a tragic and unforeseen accident, it definitely could happen to anyone.
Thus, it’s important to cherish our loved ones and always observe road safety.
