Unfortunately, if you have the coronavirus, you can’t exactly Shake it Off.

But while the Covid-19 virus has infected more than half a million people and killed over 27,000 people, it has also affected people’s livelihoods.

According to The Economist, 3.3 million Americans have filed unemployment claims since the Covid-19 outbreak.

Even if they’ve managed to keep their jobs, many people have had to take pay cuts or unpaid leave due to the pandemic.

Fortunately, while some of us are still wishing we could go Back to December, one celebrity has gone above and beyond to help some of her fans who’ve been affected by the pandemic.

Taylor Swift Transferred Money to Some Fans Who Have Been Hit by COVID-19

Taylor Swift, the singer-songwriter who experienced the most famous interruption of all time, has donated some money to her fans who were in need of financial assistance.

Since 25 March, a few Swifties began sharing private messages they received from the Amerian singer offering them sums of US$3,000 (~SGD$4,283)on social media after they publicly expressed concerns for their financial situation as a result of being temporarily laid off.

One fan, Holly Turner, received a US$3,000 donation from Swift after the freelance music photographer and graphic designer wrote on Tumblr that her livelihood was threatened and that she may have to leave New York City as a result.

Another fan, Samantha, received the same amount from the Wildest Dreams singer after Swift found out she had trouble paying the bills.

A screenshot of a conversation between the two read: “Samantha, I saw your tweet about being stressed about bills piling up and I want to help,” wrote Swift in yet another private message. “What’s the best way I can gift you $3,000? Do you have PayPal?”

Twitter user Bernie, who was also affected by the pandemic, shared screenshots of her direct messages with Swift and how she too received the generous US$3,000 donation.

“THANK YOU FOR BEING THE BEST FRIEND EVER” she wrote, adding, “I cannot breathe.”

For one Swiftie whose dream job was taken away because of the virus, the donation made her so happy she started shaking and crying:

She, just like the rest of the fans, received US$3,000.

Is it too late to become a Swiftie?

Other celebrities are doing the same

We may think that celebrities are self-obsessed egomaniacs who only care about themselves, but many of them are stepping up to the plate to help those less fortunate during the Covid-19 outbreak.

According to Deseret News, another huge pop star, Ariana Grande, has paid more than 20 fans between $500-$1,000 through Venmo (kind of like PayNow in Singapore) to help ease their financial strain.

Grande even reached out to one fan and covered their entirely monthly salary, Geo News reports.

I’ve really been supporting the wrong artists.

Britney Spears has also invited fans in need to reach out to her on Instagram if they are struggling financially during the Covid-19 outbreak, and nominated Will Smith, her boyfriend Sam Asghari, and actress Kate Hudson to do the same.

Who the hell knew celebrities were so generous?

I don’t know about you, dear reader, but I’m adding these three pop starts to my playlist on Spotify so that I’ll get some nice fat donations the next time we have a pandemic.
