The Latest Fake News is So Fake, NSmen Might Be Activated If it’s Real

Before anything, here’s what you need to know:

If you’ve received a WhatsApp message that claims Singapore is going to be split into four sectors, and that you can’t go to the sector that you don’t reside in, reply to the fellow who’s forwarded you the message and tell him or her that it’s fake.

Also, remind the fellow to subscribe to the Gov.sg WhatsApp service instead of receiving news from some random uncle you only see during Chinese New Year.

Latest Fake News: Singapore Split into Four Sectors & PM Lee Will Address the Nation Today

In the next episode of Fake News Spread by Uncles & Aunties You See Once a Year, a message purports that there would be a “Total Lockdown” from tomorrow (18 April) onwards whereby Singapore would be split into four different regions, and people must stay within their regions.

That is, of course, untrue.

It even says that the military and police would be deployed to enforce this “lockdown”.

Reader Bao: Wait, military? That means is me seh I serve in the SAF as a Combat Ration Taster

Yeah, but as mentioned, it’s fake

The message claims that PM Lee would make a speech today at 4pm, but unless you can time travel, you probably know that’s not true, too.

If you’ve subscribed to Gov.sg’s WhatsApp or Telegram channel, you’d know that this is totally untrue since they’ve sent a message to tell us about this rumour.

Here’s what they’ve written:

False rumours on the COVID-19 situation

There are rumours circulating of an announcement tonight by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong that Singaporeans will not be allowed to travel outside of the region they live in. This is untrue

We urge all not to spread unverified information.

To find out if the Prime Minister will be making a statement, please refer to government sources or PM Lee’s official social media platforms.
